A Mind-Blowingly Uncomfortable Thought

Jeri: As a young mom I remember having a loud argument with my 6-year-old daughter. We were yelling at each other, and neither one of us were about to back down.

My husband, in all his wisdom, said: “You two act just alike.”

I was livid. How dare he accuse me of acting like a 6 year old!?! Thankfully, his comment defused the situation.

Over the years I have seen that pattern repeat on different levels—even with my adult children—only without the yelling. It has been a good lesson to recognize that I was projecting my insecurities onto them.

Taking responsibility and addressing my own emotional baggage has not only helped me heal—it has helped my whole family.

Jac: That is such an important lesson to learn. I remember when I finally figured out that the things about other people that bothered me—or made me angry—were the very things I didn’t like about myself.

It was a mind-blowingly uncomfortable thought, but it was also incredibly empowering to realize that we judge people based on the way we judge ourselves.

We have to be willing to open our eyes and take responsibility for our own part in every situation, otherwise we will just be mirroring those judgements out to others and they will give it right back to us.

Jeri: That is so true. We all tend to be our own worst critic, which in turn, causes us to judge ourselves and others harshly.

Jac: I agree. I’ve found that when we criticize ourselves, it’s easy to criticize others, which also leads to us keeping people in a box of who they used to be… how they used to behave… and/or mistakes they’ve made in the past.

We have to be careful not to put someone into that kind of a box—where no matter how much they have grown and changed for the better—we can only see what once was.

Jeri: True. I feel it's important to remember that we are all on our own journey and we need to give our loved ones space to make their own mistakes and work on healing our own.

If you find judging and criticizing yourself and others—and/or butting heads with someone—see the dose of enlightenment below.

Love from Jeri and Jac

Since we promised to treat you to an extra dose of light in your inbox, we include a Dose of Enlightenment for you at the end of each newsletter. We value your agency, so it’s up to you whether or not you receive it!

This Dose of Enlightenment is a frequency equation meant to clear a hidden and trapped emotion that you’ve been holding onto.

If today's emotion is one that we have already cleared, know that we are addressing a different layer or situation this time.

*******************************************************

Today’s emotion is: harsh judgement or criticism of self or others

How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how harsh judgement or criticism of self or others applies to you.

Dose of Enlightenment: 78 + 922 = E

Say it out loud with intent: “seventy-eight plus nine-twenty-two equals enlightenment.”

Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.
