All Alone in a Great Big World

The little girl sat all alone on the porch step. Her hair fell forward, covering her face which was wet with tears.

That is when she started believing the lies… her family didn’t love her—her daddy was mean, he wouldn’t protect her—her mama was too busy to comfort her—her sisters laughed because she cried. She was all alone in this great big world.

We all experience feelings of loneliness from time to time, for different reasons.

For me, I have battled this most of my life, and I am pretty sure it is because of this one trauma from when I was barely three years old. Just when I think I’m over it, a new layer is uncovered—which is great, because clearing it always helps me function easier!

There are times when I am alone, whether at home or running errands, and I enjoy every solitary moment. But there are other times when I’m in a room full of people and feel incredibly lonely.

Because of that, I view being alone and feeling lonely as two completely different things.

When I’m alone, I can do whatever I want to do. It is a time of peace, contemplation, enjoyment or movement.

Whereas feeling lonely is isolating and separate from everything and everyone—it’s a longing for inclusive companionship. Which can mean intimacy with a loved one, or more social contact with a crowd.

For many people, feelings of loneliness come and go... for others it becomes chronic.

When it becomes persistent, you may have feelings of self-doubt, are unable to connect with anyone on a deep level, or you may find yourself exhausted when you try to connect with others socially.

Here are 5 tips to help you not feel lonely:

1. Practice gratitude. Keeping a gratitude journal will help reduce your loneliness and improve your mental health.

2. Fill your home with beautiful noise. Open your window so you can hear the birds, listen to uplifting, happy music, listen to a podcast, turn on the tv. Bringing sound into your environment will help you feel connected with the world around you.

3. Make an effort to interact with others one on one. Share your personal thoughts and feelings. Genuinely listen to what the other person has to say. Talk about things that matter—work, things you are passionate about, creative projects, vacation plans, or anything you love.

This creates connection.

4. Get out and go somewhere—anywhere. Take a walk, go to the park, check out the library. A change of scenery is another way to connect with people.

5. Excavate emotions of loneliness. Use Doses of Enlightenment to help you go deep in order to identify why you are feeling so isolated and lonely. You just might find out your little self is trying to break free, or it may be an entirely different reason. Be open to whatever comes up for you so you can clear it. You will feel stronger and have the courage to associate with others again.

When you are feeling detached from those around you, it is difficult to put yourself out there, but I know you can do this.

The good news is, releasing hidden and trapped emotions will make things easier to reconnect with the world. See the Dose of Enlightenment below to get you started.

With love,

Jeri

Since we promised to treat you to an extra dose of light in your inbox, we include a Dose of Enlightenment for you at the end of each newsletter. We value your agency, so it’s up to you whether or not you receive it!

This Dose of Enlightenment is a frequency equation meant to clear a hidden and trapped emotion that you’ve been holding onto.

If today's emotion is one that we have already cleared, know that we are addressing a different layer or situation this time.

*******************************************************

Today’s emotion is: loneliness

How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how loneliness applies to you.

Dose of Enlightenment: 79 + 921 = E

Say it out loud with intent: "seventy-nine plus nine-twenty-one equals enlightenment.”

Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.
