I had worked out HARD that morning. Weights, plus HIIT cardio. The guy I had a date scheduled with that afternoon decided he wanted us to play racquetball. Even though I’d already worked out, I agreed because it’s something I enjoy doing.
I’m usually a pretty decent player, and by that, I mean that I don’t usually lose, even if I haven’t played in years. And it had been years since I had played.
I do get pretty competitive when I play sports, but I work hard to maintain a positive and cordial attitude, even when I’m losing. I find that most people are the same way and that’s why sports are so fun to me.
But this guy… he was quite egotistical and even rude.
He played regularly and was in practice on really only one thing. He had perfected a serve that would land right in the back corner of most people’s backhand side, so when you tried to return it—nine times out of ten—your racquet would hit one or both walls.
That was the only serve he would use, therefore the match was incredibly boring, frustrating, and impossible. I just wanted to play and have fun, but I wasn’t willing to sacrifice my racquet to the wall.
It became a struggle to be kind to him on the court (and in my mind, I wasn’t being kind anymore), because it seemed that all he cared about was winning and dominating. It felt like his whole intent was to make me feel small and worthless as a player.
It felt like he wasn’t playing fair—probably because my ego told me that if he didn’t have his magic serve, I would have been crushing him!
Situations like that aren’t fun. His successful serves, plus my repeated failures to return the ball fed his ego.
(I swear his head seemed to get physically bigger each time he scored a point.)
And my ego was bruised because I’m used to winning. It was an ugly combination that fed an egotistical cycle for both parties.
He acted the same way for the second part of our date that day.
And no, I did not go out with him again. And yes, he asked. Ugh. Haha.
If you have experienced egotistical behaviors (on either side of it) or if you have ever been stuck in a cycle where your ego is butting heads with someone else’s ego, there is a dose of enlightenment below.
Love from Jac

Since we promised to treat you to an extra dose of light in your inbox, we include a Dose of Enlightenment for you at the end of each newsletter. We value your agency, so it’s up to you whether or not you receive it!
This Dose of Enlightenment is a frequency equation meant to clear a hidden and trapped emotion that you’ve been holding onto.
If today's emotion is one that we have already cleared, know that we are addressing a different layer or situation this time.
*******************************************************
Today’s emotion is: egotistical
How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how egotistical applies to you.
Dose of Enlightenment: 166 + 834 = E
Say it out loud with intent: “one-sixty-six plus eight-thirty-four equals enlightenment.”
Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.
