Becoming Great

She raised her voice at him for doing something wrong. He looked so wounded as he crumpled onto the stairs in tears. Her criticism went straight to his heart.

I’ve felt like that little boy at times, but without the freedom to fall apart in front of my criticizers.

As a graphic design major, we had to develop a really thick skin to criticism—at least on the outside. It’s part of the process of developing the designer’s eye. The ability to pore over something and pull out the smallest details that detract from a design.

We constantly had to critique each other’s work. There was no escaping it—not if you wanted to be great.

Even so, in the design world and in life, I think criticism always hurts a bit—sometimes a LOT.

I’m sure you know… some people try to soften it… some people are brutally honest… and other people are downright lethal in their delivery.

Regardless, it’s up to you to decide which criticism will be constructive for you, and which criticism you need to let roll off your back.

Note: I did NOT offer you the option to hold onto it and let it destroy you.

Sure, allow yourself to process the hurt and the other emotions it brings up for you, but don’t hold onto it. Let it change you for the better, or let it fall by the wayside.

Criticism can help you become great! But not if you hold onto it and let it drag you down.

If you have found yourself feeling oversensitive to criticism lately, see the dose of enlightenment below.

Love from Jac

Since we promised to treat you to an extra dose of light in your inbox, we include a Dose of Enlightenment for you at the end of each newsletter. We value your agency, so it’s up to you whether or not you receive it!

This Dose of Enlightenment is a frequency equation meant to clear a hidden and trapped emotion that you’ve been holding onto.

If today's emotion is one that we have already cleared, know that we are addressing a different layer or situation this time.

*******************************************************

Today’s emotion is: oversensitive to criticism

How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how oversensitive to criticism applies to you.

Dose of Enlightenment: 96 + 904 = E

Say it out loud with intent: “ninety-six plus nine-zero-four equals enlightenment.”

Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.
