Big Cheater

My longest and dearest friend was also my very first boyfriend. I was 4, he was 5. His teenage brother thought it was funny to lock us in the broom closet until we kissed.

Because we shared those closet smooches, I claimed him as my one and only. He, however, had other ideas.

When I was 5 and he was 6, I caught him kissing another girl in the bushes next to my house! He obviously thought he was quite the ladies’ man. I just thought he was a big cheater! I was mad and no longer trusted him to be my one and only.

That single social experience caused my mistrust.

Your relationships with family members and friends give you opportunities to learn to trust and depend on people who are closest to you. When these people aren't trustworthy, and your trust is repeatedly broken, you may end up feeling like the people around you are unreliable.

If a lack of trust is causing issues for you, recognize that rebuilding trust in others may take time.

With that being said, in some instances, it isn’t safe to rebuild, and strong boundaries need to be in place.

In this case, approach the issue prayerfully and follow your promptings as you learn to trust in healthy situations.

Learning to be vulnerable and trusting can make it easier for you to connect with others, strengthen relationships, and create a strong support system.

It is okay to start small.

Here is a little exercise to try: Look for someone in your circle that you want to learn to trust—it could be a family member or friend.

Pray and ask Heavenly Father to help you learn to trust that person, then show gratitude that the person is safe for you to trust.

As you do this, it is imperative that you learn to recognize the important difference between disappointment and an untrustworthy person.

Disappointment comes when you expect someone to fulfil your expectations.

An untrustworthy person is someone who is deceitful, dishonest, treacherous and/or unreliable.

Give yourself and the other person some grace and compassion as you learn to trust using this exercise.

If you're ready to get started, see the dose of enlightenment below.

With love,

 Jeri

Since we promised to treat you to an extra dose of light in your inbox, we include a Dose of Enlightenment for you at the end of each newsletter. We value your agency, so it’s up to you whether or not you receive it!

This Dose of Enlightenment is a frequency equation meant to clear a hidden and trapped emotion that you’ve been holding onto.

If today's emotion is one that we have already cleared, know that we are addressing a different layer or situation this time.

*******************************************************

Today’s emotion is: unable to trust

How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how unable to trust applies to you.

Dose of Enlightenment: 77 + 923 = E

Say it out loud with intent: "seventy-seven plus nine-twenty-three equals enlightenment.”

Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.
