This is my second confession to you guys in a week: I have struggled with some control-freakishness in some areas of my life. 

Like how I shut down my emotions at age 6 so that I wouldn’t become volatile like my mother was when I was young. Those emotions would eat me up inside, but I would never show it.

And if anything exciting happened… Woohoo. I didn’t feel a thing. I’m not even sure I could give anyone a genuine smile until my early to mid-twenties… that was when I began to heal.

Or like how I would use lists and schedules to control every possible aspect of my day. I’ve gone rogue, by the way. Now it’s chore for me to keep a schedule. 

Or how I used to put up massive walls to control who could get close to me.

Control is the human way to protect ourselves from various kinds of hurt and discomfort. But it’s no way to live.

I am beyond grateful for healing, all the people who have played a role in my healing, all the incredible tools God gives us to help us heal… 

And I’m mostly grateful for my Savior Jesus Christ who is the Master Healer and Divine Doctor. 

He understands me. 

He understands you. 

And He understands the reasons why we seek control over life and other people. 

And when we let Him, He helps us overcome those controlling tendencies.

Use the dose of enlightenment below to give Him an opportunity to help you let go of your emotional need to control—no matter how deeply that need is rooted.
