I confess, I have a history of trying to control others.
In first grade, I beat up Timothy for trying to kiss my friend who did NOT want to be kissed.
That was also the year I kicked my friend, Brad, (where it counts) for trying to cut in line so he could go back inside the school after lunch.
In fourth grade, I grabbed Zack's shirt into my fist, picked him up—with one arm—and threw him into the dirt for throwing sand into my cousin’s eyes.
In fifth grade, I created the Snow Patrol, a small gang of kids that bullied bullies to protect the innocent from being tormented during recess.
In retrospect, I’m sure it only perpetuated bullying. Oopsy.
And for most of my childhood, I attempted to make my siblings do their chores before Mom got home from work. So I pushed and prodded (a little too hard) to try to make them do it. And when they didn’t (which was highly typical), I did their chores for them.
My mom struggled with mental illness when I was young, and it could get quite volatile sometimes… I thought the only way to keep her happy was to have a clean house ready for her when she arrived home.
Some days it seemed to work, and other days it didn’t seem to matter.
But all it really did was create more problems, including a lot of overwhelm for myself.
Control was my way to attempt to protect myself and others. And I still see those tendencies creep up in my adult life.
Thankfully, I understand better now that control and manipulation is an unhealthy way of dealing with things. And I’m grateful for simple ways to clear out that energy.
If you're ready to let go of your controlling and/or manipulative behaviors, see the dose of enlightenment below.

Since we promised to treat you to an extra dose of light in your inbox, we include a Dose of Enlightenment for you at the end of each newsletter. We value your agency, so it’s up to you whether or not you receive it!
This Dose of Enlightenment is a frequency equation meant to clear a hidden and trapped emotion that you’ve been holding onto.
If today's emotion is one that we have already cleared, know that we are addressing a different layer or situation this time.
*******************************************************
Today’s emotion is: trying to control others
How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how trying to control others applies to you.
Dose of Enlightenment: 118 + 882 = E
Say it out loud with intent: “one-eighteen plus eight-eighty-two equals enlightenment.”
Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.
