Excessive Devotion Leads to Perfectionism—Here's How to Escape It

As an office manager in the eye care industry, I loved what I did, but was excessively devoted to my job. Although scheduled to work 3-4 days a week, I would stay at my job until 10 or 11 o’ clock at night, and expected perfectionism in my performance.

Preoccupation with details, rules, lists and order dominated my time at the office. I never allowed myself leisure time. My most important relationships suffered because I was obsessed and inflexible where my job was concerned.

If you can identify with my experience, you may be feeling like you are obsessed with order and lack balance in your life.

If you are obsessed with order you may be running a pattern of perfectionism, orderliness, and control… often to the point of inflexibility and/or difficulty in completing tasks.

Many times, perfectionism accompanies these feelings and you may notice that you are rigid and stubborn in your beliefs and the way you do things. You may also notice that you have a hard time working with others and delegating tasks when you need help.

If you have been dealing with criticism, you may notice that your emotions are getting the best of you, and you may find yourself over-focusing on the imperfections you see in other people.

Obsession is an over-all imbalance in your well-being and is based in fear.

Take a few minutes, identify your obsession and then ponder on this question… Why are you allowing this obsession to take over and control your life? Be honest and prayerfully seek the answer. Don’t be afraid to dig deep. Write down the thoughts that are coming to you and pray for divine intervention to let go.

Living with an obsession sucks the joy out of life. You may not feel it in the moment… but it will eventually catch up with you and you will find yourself drained and lacking the things that are most important in life—especially if it is affecting your relationships.

There is always hope. You can overcome your obsession… If you are ready, imagine giving it to the Savior as you say the dose of enlightenment (below).

With love,

 Jeri

Since we promised to treat you to an extra dose of light in your inbox, we include a Dose of Enlightenment for you at the end of each newsletter. We value your agency, so it’s up to you whether or not you receive it!

This Dose of Enlightenment is a frequency equation meant to clear a hidden and trapped emotion that you’ve been holding onto.

If today's emotion is one that we have already cleared, know that we are addressing a different layer or situation this time.

*******************************************************

Today’s emotions are: obsessed with order

How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how obsessed with order applies to you.

Dose of Enlightenment: 88 + 912 = E

Say it out loud with intent: “eighty-eight plus nine-twelve equals enlightenment.”

Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.
