Jac: I’ve noticed that when I feel I’m being nurtured by someone who speaks my love languages well, I don’t crave sweets or even really want them. FYI: sweets and other delicious carbs are usually what I want to turn to when certain life situations feel exceptionally trying.
So I wonder…if we felt loved consistently—especially during the hard times—would we feel the need to try to fill an empty hole in our hearts by filling our stomachs with comfort food?
What do you think? And what are your thoughts about the connection between the heart and the stomach?
Jeri: Wow! I have never thought of that before. Your questions definitely makes me want to ponder it more. I am an emotional eater, and notice when I’m not feeling loved or needed, I do turn to food to fill that emptiness.
Now that you mention it, for years my marriage was a struggle, and I never could figure out why I seemed to never feel satisfied at meal time. I felt like I could out eat anyone! Now that my marriage is healing, I don’t feel like I need to eat so much.
There must be a heart stomach connection with emotional eating! What have you learned about it?
Jac: Well, you’ve heard of the three brains, right? Heart-brain, stomach-brain, and brain-brain. I think the three of them work closely together to help regulate many things—including hunger, cravings, and satiety.
I think that when we feel loved and nurtured, those three brains are well-balanced… But it’s definitely something I wouldn’t mind digging more into, because I think there’s a lot more significance than that.
Jeri: I have heard of the three brains. For some reason, the heart-brain has always been easier for me to understand and connect with. I am open to the stomach-brain. Do you have an example where they all work together?
Jac: Yes, there was an instance where I really felt like I needed ice cream, which was strange because I don’t usually eat ice cream—unless I make it myself with coconut milk.
Then, during a foot zone, the practitioner told me that, for some reason, he felt like I needed to eat ice cream to help heal my heart. That was confirmation enough for me!
I said, “well, it was my grandpa’s favorite food, so maybe he wants me to enjoy some ice cream and think of him.”
I went out to get ice cream from G’s Dairy that evening and enjoyed a much bigger serving than I would normally go for. To my surprise, the dairy from that ice cream didn’t bother me one bit. And truly, my heart felt soooo much better.
So the next day, I went back to G's Dairy to get more ice cream lol. I was sad when my sinuses clogged up immediately and I struggled to sleep that night!
I hadn’t taken the time to discern whether or not that second craving was coming from my brain, which it totally was. It was likely my brain’s response to the chemical reactions resulting from the satisfaction and healing that came while I was eating the ice cream the night before.
However, that first craving was originating from the heart—which knew exactly what I needed for healing at that specific time. I feel like my heart brain was seeking my highest good, while my brain-brain was seeking pleasure.
Both cravings were very connected to the stomach-brain, which plays a big role in telling us when we need nourishment—physically and/or emotionally. However, it doesn’t exactly tell us which kind of nourishment we are needing. We have to learn to discern that for ourselves, as well as learn to keep those three brains balanced.
Jeri: That is a great example. Eating to heal your heart and paying attention to where those cravings are coming from is important. I want to be more mindful when I eat so that the heart, brain, and stomach are all working together.
I’m sure if we all practiced mindful eating instead of emotional eating everyone would enjoy a much healthier lifestyle.

Since we promised to treat you to an extra dose of light in your inbox, we include a Dose of Enlightenment for you at the end of each newsletter. We value your agency, so it’s up to you whether or not you receive it!
This Dose of Enlightenment is a frequency equation meant to clear a hidden and trapped emotion that you’ve been holding onto.
If today's emotion is one that we have already cleared, know that we are addressing a different layer or situation this time.
*******************************************************
Today’s emotion is: emotional eating
How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how emotional eating applies to you.
Dose of Enlightenment: 125 + 875 = E
Say it out loud with intent: “one-twenty-five plus eight-seventy-five equals enlightenment.”
Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.
