Finding Safety Outside of Your Shell

Jeri: Hermit crabs often retreat completely into their shell—which isn’t their own. They use shells from other animals for their home and for protection. So… they tend to act like hermits.

Jac: Well, I’ve never stolen someone else’s home, but I can relate to wanting to retreat into my shell.

Jeri: Haha. I get it. It’s important for me to have time alone to regenerate and recharge. But I also see the importance of getting out and socializing with people. Sadly, it isn’t easy for me to put myself out there.

Jac: It’s not easy for me either. Especially after hurtful social experiences. I like my alone time, and after busy days, I’d often rather stay home—even if it means more work—than to find the energy to go out and get to know people.

However, when I do, I often have a great time! It may take everything in me to get myself to attend certain activities, but it’s not unusual for me to end up being the last to leave. And then I do have to take my two hours alone to decompress after…

Jeri: I think more than ever, the tendency to withdraw and be alone—like a hermit—is because of fear. Afraid to circulate with others, fear of what others will think of you, and fear of rejection.

Once you have experienced a painful experience in a social situation, it is scary to try again. This sounds crazy, but I have felt afraid to be alone in public! It’s easier to be alone at home.

Jac: That doesn’t sound crazy at all. Balancing alone time and social time is important. And it’s also important to recognize that balance looks different for all of us.

I know people who thrive on being with a group of people—it’s how they recharge. Others recharge with alone time. And some of us—like me—tend to do better with one-on-one social experiences.

I’ve had to find a balance that works well for me, and I typically feel very fulfilled. But I do still have my moments of just wanting to isolate myself for a while.

Jeri: Seeking balance is wise. Sometimes that balance starts with acknowledging the fear that made us retreat in the first place. Once your heart feels safe again, connecting with others becomes easier and more fulfilling.

If you're ready to clear your hermit mentality and find more balance in your social life, see the dose of enlightenment below!

Since we promised to treat you to an extra dose of light in your inbox, we include a Dose of Enlightenment for you at the end of each newsletter. We value your agency, so it’s up to you whether or not you receive it!

This Dose of Enlightenment is a frequency equation meant to clear a hidden and trapped emotion that you’ve been holding onto.

If today's emotion is one that we have already cleared, know that we are addressing a different layer or situation this time.

*******************************************************

Today’s emotion is: not wanting to circulate with people—hermit mentality

How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how not wanting to circulate with people—hermit mentality applies to you.

Dose of Enlightenment: 88 + 912 = E

Say it out loud with intent: “eighty-eight plus nine-twelve equals enlightenment.”

Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.
