She had been serving for a couple of years as the Young Women’s President in our church and I was recently called as her 1st counselor.
Her behavior toward me was accusatory and confrontational. This was the second time within a week… I could not understand why she was attempting to bully and discredit me… this time in a group message.
It was late and I was tired and needed a good night’s sleep. I silenced my phone, plugged it in and decided I would contact her the next day. The phone call she made after that, went unanswered by me.
The next morning, bright and early, she sent me an angry text, accusing me of ignoring her call… which wasn’t true. I figured she must be really stressed out about something and kindly pointed out that if we were going to work together, it was important that we treat each other with respect.
That seemed to infuriate her and she hurled a bunch of harsh texts my way, loaded with false accusations, and said she was going to tell the bishop what I had done.
Within 10 days of being sustained to that calling, I was promptly released.
I felt extremely embarrassed and humiliated. I didn’t want to show my face at church. What would people think? What were they saying about me? If the bishop believed her lies, certainly others would too. Would the young women think I didn’t love them and had abandoned them?
Everything about the entire situation just felt so unjust. I wanted to hide. It felt like I was being publicly humiliated after just having the congregation sustain me to the position then being released, only to have someone else publicly sustained in my place.
Losing face can make you feel like you have lost the respect and admiration of others. You may feel like your reputation has been damaged, especially if it is something that happened publicly. You may also worry about receiving undesirable judgment from others.
You may experience feelings of anxiety, depression, guilt or shame. These emotions can contribute to low self-esteem and a lack of confidence. You may find yourself wanting to avoid certain people or situations and maybe even want to isolate yourself from others.
If you are struggling and don’t want to show your face because you feel embarrassed and/or humiliated, understand that you can overcome this… even though it’s hard. It is important that you recognize and own your emotions by seeking understanding and letting those feelings go.
Identify your part in loosing face and take responsibility in healing your feelings—this may involve giving someone a sincere apology or forgiving yourself for your part
Most important, seek to learn what your experience is teaching you. What do you need to learn, do, or let go of in order for you to move forward, build your resilience and strengthen relationships?
I challenge you to spend some time to do the work… then say the dose of enlightenment below.
With love,
Jeri

Since we promised to treat you to an extra dose of light in your inbox, we include a Dose of Enlightenment for you at the end of each newsletter. We value your agency, so it’s up to you whether or not you receive it!
This Dose of Enlightenment is a frequency equation meant to clear a hidden and trapped emotion that you’ve been holding onto.
If today's emotion is one that we have already cleared, know that we are addressing a different layer or situation this time.
*******************************************************
Today’s emotions are: losing face
How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how losing face applies to you.
Dose of Enlightenment: 89 + 911 = E
Say it out loud with intent: “eighty-nine plus nine-eleven equals enlightenment.”
Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.
