I had a profound dream one night during a particularly trying time. There was a lot going on, I had big responsibilities, huge decisions to make, and very little—if any—downtime. 

So naturally, I was trying to control it all to make sure everything worked out. 

I dreamt that I was driving a car on the icy, wintery roads of Rexburg, Idaho. There were others in the vehicle with me, including children, although I have no recollection of who the others were. I remember feeling like we were in danger, and there was someone on our tail. 

We were definitely in a hurry to lose that guy and get to somewhere safe. I remember taking a quick turn and we went into a spin on the ice. I wanted to steer through it the way I’ve seen my dad do, but the more I tried to do anything, the more out of control the spinning went! 

Then I heard a voice telling me that I needed to give up control to gain control. So I let go of the steering wheel, fully trusting that the Lord would set us right. And that He did. The change was immediate. 

I looked in my rearview mirror and saw the other car crash into a snowbank. We got away safely.

When I woke up, I remembered the dream very vividly and heard that same voice telling me that I needed to give up control to gain control. 

And it’s true. The more we surrender things to God, the quicker He can work things for our good. I’ve seen it time and time again.
