Grasping for Straws… Or Whatever Else You Can Get

Jac: They say that a drowning man will grasp at anything—even straws—to save his life.

Have you ever felt that way in any of your life situations?

Jeri: I’m sure I have. I think we all have times when we feel hopeless and want to desperately try to save something. Although I can’t think of anything relating to me right now, it does make me think of a recent situation.

A friend had just gotten out of a relationship with someone who loved to lead her on, but was incapable of being loyal, communicating, or committing to a relationship. Two months later, the guy starts sending weird texts—maybe trying to get back into her good graces.

She was kind and respectful in her response of letting him know she wasn’t interested—which wasn’t what he wanted to hear. He began making accusations, projecting his bad behavior onto her. I think that is a perfect example of someone grasping at straws.

Jac: That doesn’t sound fun. The problem with grasping at straws is that it’s based in desperation.

And desperation creates ungrounded and unbalanced—and sometimes unwise—action.

Do you have any tips for making wise decisions in the face of difficulty and challenges?

Jeri: I feel that it important to take some deep breaths and get grounded. Replying in the moment can escalate a situation that is already out of control. I like to say a prayer and clear emotions before I reply in those types of situations.

Jac: That’s wise. I have found that if I step back and prayerfully look at the facts, I can move forward with purpose, which is far more effective than when I try to act out of desperation.

Jeri: I love that—move forward with purpose.

Jac: Sometimes moving forward means letting go.

Other times, it means finding workable solutions.

If any of you have ever felt desperation to the point that you are grasping for straws, see the dose of enlightenment below.

Since we promised to treat you to an extra dose of light in your inbox, we include a Dose of Enlightenment for you at the end of each newsletter. We value your agency, so it’s up to you whether or not you receive it!

This Dose of Enlightenment is a frequency equation meant to clear a hidden and trapped emotion that you’ve been holding onto.

If today's emotion is one that we have already cleared, know that we are addressing a different layer or situation this time.

*******************************************************

Today’s emotion is: grasping at straws

How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how grasping at straws applies to you.

Dose of Enlightenment: 96 + 904 = E

Say it out loud with intent: “ninety-six plus nine-zero-four equals enlightenment.”

Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.
