My heart is yours.

You stole my heart.

You won my heart.

Those are common phrases thrown around in pop culture and have become prevalent views on romance for many—for a very long time. 

You hear it said in movies… in the lyrics of popular music… you’ll read it in books… I’ve even found myself wanting to buy into that idea at times. But yikes!

I’m not sure about you guys, but the only One who I want to have my heart is the Lord. 

During a particular troubling relationship, the Lord taught me something that felt extremely significant.

If I truly give my heart to the Lord… And if my significant other truly gives his heart to the Lord… Then the Lord can bring our hearts together as one. 

I wonder what would happen if all people in relationships did that. I’m betting the world would be a completely different place. 

Who are we to think that we can lend our heart to another human, to a tv show, a band, to our cell phones, to any kind of addiction, and think that it will not affect our relationship with the Lord? Truly, we are supposed to be His… we are His… if we choose to be. 

Our hearts were never meant to belong to anything or anyone before Him. And when we align our hearts with Christ, everything else falls into place—including our relationships.

Let’s bring our hearts back to the center—back to Christ. Let’s write his name on our hearts, just as we are engraved on His palms.
