My husband Charlie decided he wanted to camp out at Snake River Landing in Idaho Falls for the Independence Day fireworks again. This time, it would just be the boys camping. The rest of our local family, including me, joined them for the day on the 4th.
When we arrived, I noticed that Charlie was exhausted and I was a little concerned because he was only 9 weeks post-op for knee surgery and he was still dealing with a lot of pain. That night, my son promised to help his dad with the trailer the next morning and make sure the camp was cleaned up.
The morning of the 5th, Charlie woke up bright and early, cooked the boys breakfast, and proceeded to pack up camp. He had one vehicle, a fifth wheel, and a utility trailer to bring home—which meant two trips. We only live about 20 miles away, so travel wasn’t much of an issue.
Plus, my son and his two sons would need a ride home—back to their Idaho Falls neighborhoods.
Even with my son's amazing help, when Charlie parked the fifth wheel in our yard just before noon, he was overworked, beyond exhausted, and had forgotten to dump the holding tank.
I was worried and frustrated because he refuses to ask for help.
Sometimes it reminds me of a two-year-old who says, “I can do it myself!”
I was upset when he told me he also needed to meet (very soon) with a young man who wouldn’t take ‘no’ for an answer.
Running interference, I attempted to get him to move the appointment so he could rest.
You guessed it… that tactic didn’t work! He squeezed the meeting in.
In my mind, I thought, At least I can ride with him to dump the holding tank.
I heard the truck start up and knew he was connecting the fifth wheel. He didn’t ask me to go with him, so I called and invited myself.
On the way, I asked, “Why didn’t you invite me to come with you?”
His answer surprised me… He said, “Because I feel like you don’t think I can do it.”
I thought his answer was a little silly. He’s been doing that for years and I don’t have a clue how to do it… nor would I want to.
But as I sat there, something clicked.
His comment wasn’t really about dumping a holding tank—and my reaction wasn’t really about helping.
It was about the invisible dance that happens in relationships when good intentions turn into quiet control.
When I allow myself to be overly concerned for his health and well-being, I feel like I need to take control and make sure he takes care of himself.
For him, it’s like I am putting a noose around his neck and pulling it tighter and tighter. Ouch!
That moment helped me see something important:
Interfering with others, even with the best intentions, is not the same as caring appropriately.
Caring appropriately means loving someone without smothering them… respecting their agency… supporting without overstepping… and trusting that they, too, are guided by God in their own choices.
So I challenge you—just as I challenged myself—to take a gentle step back and look at how you show love to the people who matter most.
If your good intentions are turning into interference, it’s time to soften your grip and return to appropriate, respectful care.
There’s a Dose of Enlightenment below to help you release the patterns that lead to running interference—and to support you in restoring healthier, freer connection.
With love,
Jeri

Since we promised to treat you to an extra dose of light in your inbox, we include a Dose of Enlightenment for you at the end of each newsletter. We value your agency, so it’s up to you whether or not you receive it!
This Dose of Enlightenment is a frequency equation meant to clear a hidden and trapped emotion that you’ve been holding onto.
If today's emotion is one that we have already cleared, know that we are addressing a different layer or situation this time.
*******************************************************
Today’s emotion is: interfering with others
How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how interfering with others applies to you.
Dose of Enlightenment: 157 + 843 = E
Say it out loud with intent: "one-fifty-seven plus eight-forty-three equals enlightenment.”
Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.
