I Thought They Didn’t Care

Jac: We moved from Idaho Falls to Rigby when I was five years old. We left behind my very first best friend. I missed her so much, it physically hurt.

Jeri: I remember that. It took you a while to let friends get close to you after that.

Jac: Yeah… that’s true. I mostly played with boys (because I liked to play football at recess), but in fifth grade, I finally became friends with a group of girls that I really liked. We had a lot of fun together—until junior high. They got pretty mean.

Some of them purposefully didn’t invite me to parties, but would make sure I knew about being left out after the fact.

They repeatedly did things to hurt me, and each time it cut deeper and deeper. I noticed they treated other people this way too, including others among the group.

I decided that wasn’t what I wanted for myself, and I especially didn’t want to be around them when they were treating others poorly.

So I cut myself off from them without a word. I was still friendly toward them, but I stopped eating lunch with them at school. And not one of them ever invited me to anything ever again, so I really thought they didn’t care.

I moved onto other friends, and didn’t think too much about it. Until the dream…

Jeri: What was your dream?

Jac: One night (many years later when I was in my early 30s), I dreamed that I was with this entire group of girls at some sort of gathering. Most of them didn’t pay any attention to me which wasn’t surprising.

But two of them came up to talk to me—these were two of the girls in the group that didn’t blatantly do things to hurt me, even though they could be a bit snotty toward me at times.

They told me that when I stopped eating lunch with them, it had really hurt them. They told me that they had relied on me as a grounding influence among that group of friends… they had relied on me as someone they could trust. And then I just left them to themselves.

I never would have imagined my leaving would have hurt any of them, especially since they never said anything to me about it.

In the dream, I apologized and shared my perspective too. I was able to work through things with one of them, and we hugged and all was forgiven. I saw her in person a few months later and we both really enjoyed the opportunity to catch up.

I felt so grateful to have been able to repair my friendship with her (even if it was in a dream) before I saw her.

However, the other friend wasn’t able to fully forgive me in the dream. I think she had taken my leaving the hardest. We were only able to resolve things to a degree…

Every couple of years, I have another dream where we try to process and resolve the hurt and the pain that we had caused each other way back then.

Then I’ll usually see her in person a few months later and things are a little less awkward each time… So I think we are healing little by little—at least as much as she feels ready for…

It’s been a blessing to be able to process things like that in a dream and then to experience the results in real life.

Jeri: That is beautiful. I remember how difficult that time was for you. Even though it was hard, I can see how it shaped you into the woman you are today. I am always amazed at how easily you are able to forgive. That is one of the gifts you received from working through the pain and hurt caused by your friends.

Jac: I hadn’t really considered that, but you’re right. It’s important to remember that we can grow and become better, even through the most difficult times.

If you are ready to clear deep hurt from your past, see the dose of enlightenment below.

Since we promised to treat you to an extra dose of light in your inbox, we include a Dose of Enlightenment for you at the end of each newsletter. We value your agency, so it’s up to you whether or not you receive it!

This Dose of Enlightenment is a frequency equation meant to clear a hidden and trapped emotion that you’ve been holding onto.

If today's emotion is one that we have already cleared, know that we are addressing a different layer or situation this time.

*******************************************************

Today’s emotion is: deep hurt

How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how deep hurt applies to you.

Dose of Enlightenment: 42 + 958 = E

Say it out loud with intent: “forty-two plus nine-fifty-eight equals enlightenment.”

Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.
