Ineffective Shot

Jac: The bursa is designed to reduce friction at the joint (especially shoulders, elbows, and knees) to allow for free movement.

The higher function of the bursa is to help us move forward in life smoothly and painlessly. When the bursa becomes inflamed, movement becomes difficult and painful.

Jeri: Oh yes, it’s very painful—I’ve dealt with bursitis. In fact, when we were going through the foot zoning classes, I had a bad episode of bursitis in my shoulder. It was so painful and nothing seemed to touch the pain.

We were staying at my parent’s house during General Conference for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I remember sleeping in dad’s recliner and waking up every time my sweet mom would change out the ice packs.

She finally convinced me to go to the doctor, where I received a steroid shot in my shoulder. Ouch! Sadly, it didn’t really seem to do anything to help.

Jac: Thankfully, I’ve never experienced bursitis myself, but I remember seeing you go through it a few times… You said that bad episode was during foot zoning classes… I’m curious how you were feeling emotionally at the time? Did you realize that one of the emotions tied to the bursa is losing control?

Jeri: That is interesting because I was doing my best to hold everything together. I was probably holding on too tightly. I felt like I had too many irons in the fire and I was being pulled in so many different directions.

I was working at a very stressful job, traveling to our foot zoning classes once a month—where we had to get hotel reservations for the night. I had to make sure my homework was done and clients were scheduled so I could practice the zone on them. In addition, I had all the regular things to do. I loved it—but it just seemed like a lot.

Jac: Wow. That sounds very stressful. Sometimes we hold on too tightly when we feel like we are losing control. Does that resonate with you?

Jeri: That makes so much sense. It also makes sense why it would manifest in physical disease. I wish doses of enlightenment would have been available during that time because I know I would have received immediate relief after getting to the roots and boulders causing the pain.

Come to think of it… losing control probably would have allowed the pain to leave my body! Haha!

Jac: So true—if by losing control you mean letting go… Haha! Now is as a good time as any to let go (or lose control—in a good way) by releasing the emotion of losing control! It’s not fun to feel that way.

See the dose of enlightenment below.

Today’s emotion is: losing control

How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how losing control applies to you.

Dose of Enlightenment: 86 + 914 = E

Say it out loud with intent: “eighty-six plus nine-fourteen equals enlightenment.”

Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.
