She seemed very concerned when she told me she had dreamed about a bright star being suffocated by heavy black clouds.
I already knew the meaning.
The bright star was me.
I was being suffocated by my relationship.
Since that moment, I’ve thought a lot about bondage in relationships—how quietly it can creep in, how deeply it can confuse us, and how often we justify it in the name of “love.”
The truth is, bondage rarely looks like chains.
More often, it looks like:
🔒 Over-attachment: When your worth starts depending on how someone else is feeling or behaving toward you.
🎭 Shrinking to avoid conflict: Editing yourself constantly so you won’t trigger their mood, insecurity, or anger.
🌀 Emotional enmeshment: Feeling like you can’t separate your needs, opinions, or even energy from theirs.
🧊 Manipulative withdrawal: When love is withheld unless you comply, agree, or perform emotionally.
🥀 Energetic dimming: When your natural joy or brightness starts to fade—not because you changed, but because the relationship couldn’t hold your full light.
These patterns don’t always show up as abuse.
Sometimes they show up as obligation.
Sometimes they hide inside “spiritual” roles.
And often, we stay longer than we should because we were taught to equate suffering with sacrifice.
So how do you know if you’re in a bond that’s helping you grow—or one that’s holding you hostage?
Here are a few questions to ask yourself:
✨ Do I feel more myself in this relationship—or less?
✨ Can I express truth without fear of backlash?
✨ Is there room for both people to grow, shine, and disagree with love?
✨ Does this feel like connection—or control?
If these questions hit something tender, it doesn’t always mean you need to leave.
But it does mean there’s something to look at.
Something to heal.
Something to name.
Something you might need support with.
And if that bright star in you is feeling smothered—
Let this be your reminder:
You were made to shine, not shrink.
See the dose of enlightenment below to help you bring back your glow.

Since we promised to treat you to an extra dose of light in your inbox, we include a Dose of Enlightenment for you at the end of each newsletter. We value your agency, so it’s up to you whether or not you receive it!
This Dose of Enlightenment is a frequency equation meant to clear a hidden and trapped emotion that you’ve been holding onto.
If today's emotion is one that we have already cleared, know that we are addressing a different layer or situation this time.
*******************************************************
Today’s emotion is: bondage in relationships
How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how bondage in relationships applies to you.
Dose of Enlightenment: 39 + 961 = E
Say it out loud with intent: “thirty-nine plus nine-sixty-one equals enlightenment.”
Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.
