Jac: Several years ago, I met a guy on a religious dating app. After messaging through the app for a while, we decided to meet up and go for a walk around the greenbelt in Idaho Falls. (That’s typically a safe option for a first in-person meeting because there are plenty of people around.)
Truly, he seemed like a nice, attractive, and fun person, and I needed to get out of the house.
However, he wasn’t any of those things.
Not long after we started walking, he kept trying to put the moves on me. I told him no, but he would get more and more persistent and kept pushing my boundaries. I tried to leave several times, but he had me cornered. He wouldn’t let me go until I agreed to go out with him again.
I knew I was either going to have to fight him, or lie to him. He felt dangerous and predatory, so I didn’t want to fight him.
So… I smiled and lied and got out of there safely, but not entirely unscathed.
Jeri: That sounds terrifying to me.
Jac: It was definitely scary. In retrospect, I wish I would have felt confident enough to use my voice to ask for help. We were in a public place. I could have easily made a scene and attracted attention to the situation. But that’s really not in my nature, so it didn't even come to my mind as an option.
Jeri: Was there anyone around that you could have approached for help?
Jac: I’m confident that there were plenty of people there who would have helped me... I still can’t believe I never thought of that as an option.
Jeri: I believe that predators look for someone who they think won’t do or say anything. It is so important to speak up and be firm in a dangerous situation.
It’s good to have an opportunity to revisit times when you wish you could have spoke your mind. It helps you get clear on what you will do if something like that ever happens again. It can also help others avoid similar dangers. I’m just grateful you were able to get away without physical harm.
Jac: Me too. I spoke up to him just fine, and he didn’t care. But I do think he could sense I wasn’t the type to make a scene.
I’ve never been one to live in fear of bad things happening to me, but I do think it would have been helpful had I taken a class—or at least, previously thought through scenarios like that.
We have to give ourselves permission in advance that is ok to make a scene for our safety.
If you have ever felt unable to speak up for yourself, whether it was a potentially dangerous situation or something seemingly more mild, see the dose of enlightenment below.
Love from Jeri and Jac

Since we promised to treat you to an extra dose of light in your inbox, we include a Dose of Enlightenment for you at the end of each newsletter. We value your agency, so it’s up to you whether or not you receive it!
This Dose of Enlightenment is a frequency equation meant to clear a hidden and trapped emotion that you’ve been holding onto.
If today's emotion is one that we have already cleared, know that we are addressing a different layer or situation this time.
*******************************************************
Today’s emotion is: unable to speak up for self
How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how unable to speak up for self applies to you.
Dose of Enlightenment: 97 + 903 = E
Say it out loud with intent: “ninety-seven plus nine-zero-three equals enlightenment.”
Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.
