As 1st counselor in the Primary Presidency (a leader to children ages 18 months to 12 years in my church), I was asked to go Ward Council because the Primary President would be out of town.
As the various leaders of different organizations filed into the bishop’s office, he greeted everyone with a hand shake, and a “hello president, hello president, hello president” … that is until he got to me… then he said, “hello, almost a president,” then continued with “hello president” to those who followed behind me.
His greeting did not set well with me and for a long time after the meeting the self-depreciation continued.
I’m just an ‘almosta,’ I don’t have what it takes to be a president, I will never be worthy of being a president. I will never measure up because I’m just ‘almosta.’
I hated those thoughts, but they kept replaying over and over in my head.
I have had to work hard to overcome these negative thoughts. They are just like weeds in a petunia patch and need to be pulled often before they overtake the entire garden.
If not eradicated, negative thoughts can quickly turn into false beliefs that affect the way you feel about yourself—and you will soon find that putting yourself down in social situations becomes easy.
Think about this… the thoughts you speak out loud can distort your self-perception and they become believable, not only to yourself, but to others.
The number one way I have found to destroy the bad habit of putting yourself down, is actually two-steps… recognize then eliminate.
1. Recognize. You may not even be aware of your self-depreciating attitude. I became aware when others pointed it out to me. That helped me be aware and I was able to pay attention and acknowledge the thoughts I was projecting onto myself and others.
Putting yourself down affects self-esteem, confidence and self-worth. When you recognize the undesirable effects, it stands to reason that you will want to get rid of that habit.
2. Eliminate. Prayerfully using Doses of Enlightenment helped me access the atonement of Jesus Christ. That is a powerful combination. Identifying the emotions and using the divine equations along with the blessings of the atonement helps to uncover and reveal the issue so you can hand it over to your Savior—He is the Divine Doctor.
If you have been guilty of putting yourself down, I challenge you to do the work to recognize and eliminate. You can begin by saying the dose of enlightenment below. You can do this!
With love,
Jeri

Since we promised to treat you to an extra dose of light in your inbox, we include a Dose of Enlightenment for you at the end of each newsletter. We value your agency, so it’s up to you whether or not you receive it!
This Dose of Enlightenment is a frequency equation meant to clear a hidden and trapped emotion that you’ve been holding onto.
If today's emotion is one that we have already cleared, know that we are addressing a different layer or situation this time.
*******************************************************
Today’s emotion is: putting yourself down
How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how putting yourself down applies to you.
Dose of Enlightenment: 67 + 933 = E
Say it out loud with intent: "sixty-seven plus nine-thirty-three equals enlightenment.”
Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.

The Doses of Enlightenment come from the M: Collaborations with the Divine Doctor book by Jaclyn Taylor. If you haven’t picked up a copy yet and want to learn more about how this works, you can get one here:
