This Easter season, I have thought a lot about the gift the Atonement of Jesus Christ. It is truly humbling to think that He laid down his life for me and for you… He suffered greatly in the Garden of Gethsemane—so much so, that he bled from every pore. And then, he was stripped, mocked, beaten and crucified. 

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, a God himself, could have stopped it at any moment… but He did not. He allowed himself to suffer the agony, injustice, cruelty and violence of the world for you and for me. 

It pains me to think that at times, I was guilty of driving the nails in his hands and feet… but then I wonder, what can I do to make things right? And that, my friend, is where His gift of the atonement comes in…

All He expects in return for His sacrifice is for you and me to lay our burdens at his feet. For most of us, that is easier said than done. Why? Because sometimes it is just too difficult to give up those afflictions because they may be serving you in some way.

Over the years I have heard many reasons why someone may not want to use the gift, some of which include:

I have done too many horrible things to be forgiven—He would never forgive me…

I can’t give my sins to Jesus; I love Him too much to dirty Him with my sins…

It is my lot in life to suffer, He shouldn’t be expected to carry my stuff…

I’ve waited too long to repent… it’s too late…

Or, they just simply do not believe…

I love this quote by Jeffery R. Holland about the Atonement of Jesus Christ: “However many chances you think you have missed, however many mistakes you feel you have made…, I testify that you have not traveled beyond the reach of divine love. It is not possible for you to sink lower than the infinite light of Christ’s Atonement shines.”

Christ doesn’t care what you have done… He only cares that you turn to Him and use His gift.

When Jesus walked the earth, He performed many miracles of healing. He still heals in today’s world. Accessing the Atonement of Jesus Christ by making a conscious effort to gift Him your burdens, sins and afflictions will change your life.

For Easter, I challenge you to gift the Savior your burden’s, health challenges, grief, guilt, resentment or whatever else you need to let go of.

If you have been reading our newsletters for a while, you understand that holding on hurts you, and will eventually manifest as illness, disease or discomfort in your body.

So really… giving these things to the Savior will bless your life and you will feel lighter over all. It is a win-win situation.
