I did the Leap of Faith. I put on the full body harness. I donned the helmet. I climbed up that telephone pole and onto the tiny little platform. And I jumped.

But I missed the ring I was jumping for. And I didn’t even care. I was happy to move onto a different ropes course activity. 

After watching the video of my jump later that night, I realized I had made a mistake. 

I was soooo close to grabbing that ring!! Everyone on the ground had told me I was close, but I didn’t believe them. Honestly, I thought they were just saying that to make me feel better. 

The truth is, I never believed I could reach the ring in the first place—it looked super far away. That’s not to say I didn’t try, but perhaps if I had believed it was possible, I would have tried harder. Or at least tried again. 

I’m sad to say that I didn’t believe my friends—or the staff—when they told me I was close, nor did I think to pray for help to do my best. 

Yet the proof was in the video. And now I feel really bothered that I didn’t try again. Because, now I’ll never know—unless I drive back to Provo and do it again, but it just wouldn’t be the same…

I hope that next time I try something new—or try something different—that I will believe in myself, believe in the people who are there to support me, and think to ask for Heavenly help. How can I claim my own power otherwise!?
