Letting Go of Attachment to Negative Perceptions

Jeri: Recently I went to lunch with my daughter, Jada, and shared with her some negative feelings I’ve had surrounding my childhood. I have such vivid memories of being punished when my baby sister was brought home from the hospital.

I wanted my mom, but my dad felt a need to protect her from me.

My older sisters were laughing at me. Mom looked torn—like she wanted to comfort me, but she was holding the baby. Dad took charge and put me outside on the porch to cry it out. It was dark and I was scared. Dad was watching me through the window. I could see him laughing at me.

I remember thinking, as an almost 3-year-old… “I hope I get kidnapped and then they will feel bad.”

Jac: Those are some deep emotions for such a little girl.

Jeri: I agree. That was a turning point in my life—that was when I decided I didn’t belong in my family.

Jac: Wow. What did Jada think of your story?

Jeri: It was so interesting because I had been praying and asked Heavenly Father to open my mind to good and positive memories from my childhood. Jada was the tool to help me see this experience clearly. She helped me reframe it and I was able to see things in a completely different light.

Jac: How did she do that?

Jeri: By asking inspired questions and using the example of my granddaughter when her newborn brother came home from the hospital. She was a handful and Jada had a funny story to share about her everyday.

Jada was able to help me see that I was an adorable little girl that brought my family so much joy. They laughed because I was so cute and entertaining! Reframing that story gave me a new understanding of how I really do fit in my family. It also helped me remember how much my dad loved to tease me because I was so spunky and spicy!

Jac: Haha! There is so much power in asking the right questions and reframing a story. This technique can be used in any situation to break negative patterns and eliminate false and limiting beliefs.

Do you remember any of the questions she asked?

Jeri: Yes! She had a picture of the questions from Katie Byron’s book, “Loving What Is.”

The questions were: Is it true? Is this REALLY true? Can you absolutely know this is true? Could this be a misinterpretation or a misconception? Do you have all the possible information necessary to know exactly what this means?

What happens when you believe that thought? What do you feel, experience, or become when you believe this thought?

Who would you be without the thought? If this thought didn’t exist, if you never had this thought, what would you feel, how would you behave, how would you experience life? What would you be like without it?

Jac: I remember reading that book years ago, but had forgotten about it, so I’m glad for the reminder. Those really are great questions. They make you think and question whether or not your perception is merely yourtruth… or if it’s the actual Truth. When you have the answer to that, it’s a lot easier to let go of your attachment to your perceptions.

If you are finding yourself trapped in negativity surrounding people or situations, now would be a good time to ponder those questions, and to see the dose of enlightenment below to clear the energy and emotions of negativity.

Love from Jeri and Jac

Since we promised to treat you to an extra dose of light in your inbox, we include a Dose of Enlightenment for you at the end of each newsletter. We value your agency, so it’s up to you whether or not you receive it!

This Dose of Enlightenment is a frequency equation meant to clear a hidden and trapped emotion that you’ve been holding onto.

If today's emotion is one that we have already cleared, know that we are addressing a different layer or situation this time.

*******************************************************

Today’s emotion is: negativity

How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how negativity applies to you.

Dose of Enlightenment: 68 + 932 = E

Say it out loud with intent: “sixty-eight plus nine-thirty-two equals enlightenment.”

Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.
