Light of Love

When I try and express myself in a group or to other people, sometimes I feel completely at a loss for words and I cannot form an inspiring, imaginative sentence. It can be frustrating and leaves me feeling… well… stupid… then I tend to berate myself and feel like I should have kept my mouth shut.

Case in point: A question was asked by a visiting church stake leader in my Sunday School class last week. (Our stake is comprised of 12 congregations.) He asked, “How can we show the love of the Savior to others?” My answer was simple and straight forward, as I replied, “I feel it is important to be an example of the Savior and shine our light to those around us.”

He promptly replied—with what I felt was a little disgusted grunt—"that doesn’t always work—especially if it’s someone you don’t get along with.”

Hum… He then promptly moved the conversation away from me and my comment.

At first, I thought, wow, he must have had a negative experience with that at some time in his life. But then, my mind quickly turned inward… if I could just express myself better… if I was only more imaginative and clearer in my comments… if I wasn’t so stupid…

My head was throbbing, and in my mind, my head seemed as if it was a cartoon with big boils rising up and moving all over it—like a boiling pot of water. It was weird feeling what was happening to my body.

I felt uncomfortable and wanted to run, but sadly, there were too many people I would have to crawl over, so I stayed. I could not focus, nor hear another word after that. Time passed so slowly.

I wrestled with that traumatic experience all night. When I woke up on Monday morning, I was filled with knowledge, insight and forgiveness. I also realized that my imagination was not lacking.

What I learned: It takes great strength and dedication to be able to shine the light of Christ and to share His example. Part of that is being humble and meek, loving, forgiving and charitable and having a clear knowledge and understanding of the gospel.

Christ had enemies of the worst kind. His enemies crucified Him in order to silence Him. Being like Him, and embodying His example and shining His light to the world is NOT a bad thing unless you fear that crucifixion or being silenced.

My leader wasn’t belittling me… he was dealing with his own fears where he felt like he was shut down or someone close to him was. He was afraid to address my comment because of his own fears, not because my comment wasn’t true. He is young and still learning.

Sharing the light of Christ embodies E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G. Everything that has to do with showing the Savior’s love to others, and so much more. It has to do with absolutely everything I believe and hold dear. My answer was not just a trite comment and could have opened up a beautiful discussion if the teacher had been willing.

If you have been feeling overwhelmed and unimaginative in conversations or in other areas of your life, it may simply be because your comments or actions are not what others expect… you are not predictable, because you are distinct and different, and that is a wonderful thing!

Go ahead and say the dose of enlightenment below.

With love,

Jeri

Since we promised to treat you to an extra dose of light in your inbox, we include a Dose of Enlightenment for you at the end of each newsletter. We value your agency, so it’s up to you whether or not you receive it!

This Dose of Enlightenment is a frequency equation meant to clear a hidden and trapped emotion that you’ve been holding onto.

If today's emotion is one that we have already cleared, know that we are addressing a different layer or situation this time.

*******************************************************

Today’s emotions are: unimaginative

How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how unimaginative applies to you.

Dose of Enlightenment: 76 + 924 = E

Say it out loud with intent: “seventy-six plus nine-twenty-four equals enlightenment.”

Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.
