Jac: What are your thoughts about why people manipulate others?
Jeri: It’s to get what they want. As a young teenager, I had a friend that came to spend her summers in my small hometown.
She knew the art of manipulation and was more than happy to teach me how to get my dad to say yes to whatever I wanted.
All I had to do was give him a hug and a kiss and sweet talk him. It worked!
Jac: Wow! Haha. I definitely can’t disagree that people use manipulation to get what they want.
I think that many manipulators have a deeply subconscious need to have their needs met above all else, so they will do whatever it takes.
Sweet talking your dad seems pretty harmless… but there is potential for some types of manipulation to become dangerous.
Jeri: That is so true. Sometimes people use their physical or mental strength to manipulate others. Those are definitely the harmful kinds of manipulation.
Jac: There is a lot of emotional manipulation going on out there as well, which can also be dangerous. What are some of the behaviors you’ve seen or experienced from someone who manipulates?
Jeri: I found this great website that talks about the nine behaviors of a master manipulator. (geediting.com; If someone displays these 9 behaviors, they’re a master manipulator)
1. Playing the victim card. They want to make you feel sorry for them so that they can get away with their actions.
2. Guilt-tripping you. They want to make you feel guilty so they can control your actions and decisions.
3. Gaslighting masters. They want to make you question your own sanity.
4. Using your weaknesses against you. They want to point out your past mistakes to gain an upper hand.
5. Overly charming. They want to gain your trust and admiration so they can manipulate you into doing what they want.
6. Making you feel indebted. They want to feel like you owe them so you’ll feel obligated to pay them back in some way.
7. Belittling your achievements. They want to make you feel inferior so they can control you.
8. Changing the topic. They want to throw you off balance and divert your attention away from their actions because they don’t want to feel uncomfortable.
9. Never taking responsibility. They want to blame others for their own mistakes and twist the facts to make themselves look innocent.
Jac: That’s a really great list. Do you think there’s hope for those who find themselves fitting into one or more of those behaviors?
Jeri: Absolutely. There is always hope when one is willing to take responsibility for their actions. That’s why I love M: Collaborations with the Divine Doctor, because we are taking responsibility for our own actions and not blaming someone else.
I believe that everyone deals with manipulative behavior on some level at one time or another. I know I can see myself in several items on that list.
Using Doses of Enlightenment can help us clear those negative manipulative behaviors to help us heal.
Jac: I agree that we all have manipulative tendencies. And I agree there is always hope.
I think manipulation all comes down to selfishness on some level—whether we are protecting our ego, avoiding responsibility because we really do feel like a victim sometimes, or just trying to get our needs met… it's selfish.
However, if we are willing to dig a little and clear those varying levels of selfishness, we will be able to have and maintain healthier relationships.
There’s a dose of enlightenment below for all of you who are ready to get started on healing your manipulative tendencies!
Love from Jeri and Jac

Since we promised to treat you to an extra dose of light in your inbox, we include a Dose of Enlightenment for you at the end of each newsletter. We value your agency, so it’s up to you whether or not you receive it!
This Dose of Enlightenment is a frequency equation meant to clear a hidden and trapped emotion that you’ve been holding onto.
If today's emotion is one that we have already cleared, know that we are addressing a different layer or situation this time.
*******************************************************
Today’s emotion is: manipulative
How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how manipulative applies to you.
Dose of Enlightenment: 122 + 878 = E
Say it out loud with intent: “one-twenty-two plus eight-seventy-eight equals enlightenment.”
Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.
