Jeri: A few weeks ago, I really embarrassed myself… I went with Charlie to his follow up appointment a few days after his nasal surgery. The PA checked him out and told him to come back in 5 weeks to have the splints removed.
I followed my husband to the check-out desk and could not keep my nose out of his business.
Jac: Oh no, what did you do?
Jeri: The receptionist was trying to schedule Charlie’s appointment, and I kept insisting that it had to be 6 weeks exactly after his surgery—not 5 ½ weeks—because the doctor said he needed to have the splints in for 6 weeks.
I was going to make sure he got his full 6 weeks’ worth of having those things shoved up his nostrils!
Jac: That almost sounds like a punishment!
Jeri: Haha! Now that you mention it, I can see what you mean!
The doctor told me he wanted to make sure the splints stayed in that long so there wouldn’t be a possibility of the surgery failing. I was reacting from a place of fear and seriously didn’t want Charlie to have to go through that again.
I must have been making quite a ruckus, because an employee walked out and was watching me. I looked him right in the eyes, slapped the counter, and exclaimed, “why do I do this?”
He mildly replied… “Because you’re a woman?”
Jac: Oh dear, how did that go over?
Jeri: It actually lightened the mood and I realized I needed to back off.
Because of my interference, Charlie’s appointment was scheduled for a few days after 6 weeks. I may still be feeling a bit bothered that it isn’t exact! (Insert eye roll.)
Jac: It sounds like you had his best interest at heart, but I can see why you were embarrassed. Although, if I'm being honest... to me... 6 weeks means 6 weeks. I would have been concerned too.

Dose of Enlightenment: 71 + 929 = E
Say it out loud with intent: “seventy-one plus nine-twenty-nine equals enlightenment.”
