Pulling the Reins

Pulling the Reins

I was barely five years old, and sitting bareback on Cindy, our bay mare. My dad gave me instructions on how to make a clicking noise with my mouth, and give her a little kick to get her to go.

He then told me to pull back on the reins so she would stop. On top of that, I was supposed to hold on!

Kicking my little legs, Cindy trotted down the tiny hill in our back yard. I fell off. Dad was a firm believer that if you fall off, you get right back on. I tried again and fell off a second time.

Dad patiently taught me that pulling back on the reins would not only stop her, but would slow her down, if needed. The third time was a charm and I was able to stay on.

Pulling back on the reins stops or slows the horse because they are attached to a metal bit that goes into the horse’s mouth. The bit enables communication between a horse and rider. If one pulls too hard on the reigns, it can cause discomfort to the horse.

At times you may find yourself “pulling on the reins” in your relationships as a way to control someone. Or you may find yourself not wanting to let go of the reins, because you don’t feel safe to do so—once again, because you feel you need that control.

This can lead to a power struggle, where you are both fighting for dominance. You pull too hard on the reins, and the other person fights for the bit in an attempt to pull the reins out of your hands. That makes everyone involved uncomfortable.

If you see yourself in this analogy, see the dose of enlightenment below.

I challenge you to let Jesus take the reins. Doing so will help you can step out of the power struggle so that you can heal your relationship.

It can take time and effort, but it is worth it. Don’t worry about what the other person is doing. Just work on you, and the relationship will begin to heal. You can do this.

With love,

Jeri

Since we promised to treat you to an extra dose of light in your inbox, we include a Dose of Enlightenment for you at the end of each newsletter. We value your agency, so it’s up to you whether or not you receive it!

This Dose of Enlightenment is a frequency equation meant to clear a hidden and trapped emotion that you’ve been holding onto.

If today's emotion is one that we have already cleared, know that we are addressing a different layer or situation this time.

*******************************************************

Today’s emotion is: power struggle

How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how power struggle applies to you.

Dose of Enlightenment: 132 + 868 = E

Say it out loud with intent: "one-thirty-two plus eight-sixty-eight equals enlightenment.”

Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.
