Raising Confident Children

As a young mom, I believed my needs were not important and I became used to going without, stretching every penny until it wouldn’t stretch anymore.

Bills, bills, and more bills ruled the budget—the gas bill, the electric bill, the phone bill, the water bill, the sewer bill, the grocery bill… mortgage, taxes, diapers, clothes, and shoes for growing children… gas for the car, car repairs… my hubby’s needs… the list goes on and on.

I know that you know what I’m talking about. You’ve had to go without at times too. Am I right?

Sadly, when my youngest son was 16, (sad because he was my last child at home) my husband and I decided we needed a parenting class.

Why, oh why, did we wait so long?

We signed up for the six-week Love and Logic class our school district was offering.

We learned to give our son choices that WE could live with—Would you like to mow the lawn, or break the cement off of the clothesline pole? Feel free to hang out with your friends when you are done.

He hated it because he couldn’t manipulate me anymore. It worked!

My biggest take away from that class was that “parents who put themselves first raise more confident children”.

Wow. That was humbling. I thought that by going without I was doing the absolute best for my kids, but in reality, I was raising them to feel they were entitled.

Thankfully, they all turned out pretty great, in spite of me, and I learned a wonderful lesson—that it’s okay to put myself first.

As a parent, spouse, employee, friend, or where ever you find yourself in life—try putting yourself first—not to be selfish, but because you have earned it.

You deserve to be first, and the people you surround yourself with deserve to know just how wonderful, amazing and confident you are as you take the lead.

In doing so, you give others permission to put themselves first as well. This is not a competition, but a wonderful balance of allowing yourself and others to stand in their greatness. It’s a beautiful thing.

If you feel like you have had to go without because you felt obligated to put everyone else before yourself, see the dose of enlightenment below.

With love,

Jeri

Since we promised to treat you to an extra dose of light in your inbox, we include a Dose of Enlightenment for you at the end of each newsletter. We value your agency, so it’s up to you whether or not you receive it!

This Dose of Enlightenment is a frequency equation meant to clear a hidden and trapped emotion that you’ve been holding onto.

If today's emotion is one that we have already cleared, know that we are addressing a different layer or situation this time.

*******************************************************

Today’s emotion is: going without

How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how going without applies to you.

Dose of Enlightenment: 106 + 894 = E

Say it out loud with intent: "one-zero-six plus eight-ninety-four equals enlightenment.”

Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.
