Rediscovering Your Identity

Jeri: From day one I have struggled with my true identify and self connection. I was always expected to fit into a mold that I didn’t belong in—like a popsicle in a chocolate mold—it just didn’t feel right.

I’ve spent most of my life trying to live up to the expectations of my dad’s idea of who his little girl should be and how I should act. Because of that, I have spent too many years feeling disconnected from my true self.

Jac: I think that’s very relatable. I think back to childhood and that specific moment when I consciously chose to shut down emotionally… I became very out of touch with my true self—for many, many years.

I had become so concerned with controlling myself—to fit the mold I had decided I needed to fit—so I could to prevent myself from becoming an emotionally dangerous person.

Jeri: Wow! It is crazy for me to think what these experiences have in common. We both made a decision on some level to protect ourselves and control our lives at an extremely young age.

Have you ever done inner child work on the little Jac who needed to control? If so, what did that look like for you?

Jac: Yes, I have done some inner child work, and what it looked like for me was …giving myself permission to enter a space that allowed me to be me. The real me. Where nobody could control me—not even myself. A place where it felt safe to be me.

For me, that came as a picture (within my mind’s eye) of a giant playground in a nature setting—with trees and greenery and various types of jungle gyms. I could see myself running and jumping and climbing with a huge smile on my face.

And then I started doing the things—as an adult—that I had loved as a child…. Or rather, the things that make me feel like I’m having fun like I did before I started trying to be a perfectly emotionless child. Like indoor climbing and pickleball, both of which didn’t exist in my world when I was a kid, but remind me of things I did love to do as a kid.

It’s been really healing for me. What about you? Have you done inner child work?

Jeri: I have. I enjoy writing, so I asked my little self questions and recorded her reply writing left handed. This really opened up things I had never considered before and was very healing for me… and I was able to help her feel safe.

Jac: That’s beautiful. I think safety is key. We need to create those safe spaces for ourselves, where we feel secure in allowing ourselves to connect with who we truly are.

If we don’t nurture and heal our relationship with ourself, then how can we support ourselves and stand up for ourselves!?

Jeri: That is so true. If we don’t have an identity for who we really are, we are being blown about by the wind.

If you are struggling with your identity and making a connection with your true self, I recommend addressing your inner child. Identify those tough emotions and ask your little self to help you find the answers.

As you dig deep you will find the answers you are sincerely searching for.

Since we promised to treat you to an extra dose of light in your inbox, we include a Dose of Enlightenment for you at the end of each newsletter. We value your agency, so it’s up to you whether or not you receive it!

This Dose of Enlightenment is a frequency equation meant to clear a hidden and trapped emotion that you’ve been holding onto.

If today's emotion is one that we have already cleared, know that we are addressing a different layer or situation this time.

*******************************************************

Today’s emotion is: not supporting self or not standing up for self

How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how not supporting self or not standing up for self applies to you.

Dose of Enlightenment: 103 + 897 = E

Say it out loud with intent: “one-zero-three plus eight-ninety-seven equals enlightenment.”

Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.
