HISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! The deafening sound simultaneously shook me to the core, stopped my heart, and caused me to feel like my heart had just been Dfibbed!
My body went into flight first—to distance me from the threat. Then my body stopped suddenly as my head whipped around, demanding I find the source of that diabolical sound.
That’s when I saw the long rattles slithering into the sagebrush right next to where I had just been running.
Logically, I knew that the danger had passed, but during the rest of my run/hike, I felt extremely vulnerable—like hundreds of other rattlesnakes were lying in wait, somewhere on the path, planning to strike me down.
Every little movement… every little sound… created a lesser version of that fight or flight experience. I couldn’t get off that mountain fast enough!!
Then I stayed the heck away from the Menan Butte for at least 3 weeks, when I had previously been hiking/running out there 1-3 times per week to help satisfy my needs for nature and exercise.
It seems silly… Although, I’d heard of other people encountering rattlesnakes out there, I hadn’t ever seen one during my many hikes there—until that soul-shaking hiss!
So why did I think I’d run into another one if I went again?
I knew God had protected me that day (as I look back at the timing of things and the contrasting heavenly experience not even thirty seconds before the rattler encounter, I can’t doubt His hand guiding me to safety—one step could have been the difference between the snake striking verses the warning hiss)…
So why did I suddenly no longer trust Him to protect me again?
Why was I still feeling so vulnerable?
Because traumatic experiences create trauma. I’ve never been shaken like I was that day, even though I was not harmed.
I had to clear the trauma to help me trust that I could be safe hiking/running the butte again.
If you’ve experienced a frightening situation that has caused you to feel vulnerable, even when the actual and/or perceived danger has passed, see the dose of enlightenment below!
Love from Jac
PS My trekking poles have new purpose now. Weapons, anyone!? Only for self-defense, of course. Haha.

Since we promised to treat you to an extra dose of light in your inbox, we include a Dose of Enlightenment for you at the end of each newsletter. We value your agency, so it’s up to you whether or not you receive it!
This Dose of Enlightenment is a frequency equation meant to clear a hidden and trapped emotion that you’ve been holding onto.
If today's emotion is one that we have already cleared, know that we are addressing a different layer or situation this time.
*******************************************************
Today’s emotion is: vulnerable
How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how vulnerable applies to you.
Dose of Enlightenment: 86 + 914 = E
Say it out loud with intent: “eighty-six plus nine-fourteen equals enlightenment.”
Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.
