Standing Firm: Overcoming the Pushover Mentality

In junior high I fell in with a group of kids that didn’t make the best choices. Sadly, I was easily influenced because I was afraid to speak up.

I really wanted to have friends—and for me, that meant going along with the crowd—even if it meant doing something I didn’t agree with and I knew was wrong. I was such a pushover.

At times, as an adult, I have also allowed myself to be easily persuaded, and to just go along with the crowd. My big fear has been that if I speak up, I will come across as domineering, disagreeable or overbearing.

It has been a delicate balance for me to learn to express myself with grace and ease.

Here are my tips on how to not be a pushover:

1. Be true to yourself. Do not compromise your beliefs and ideals to please someone else. Recognize that your opinions matter and are every bit as important as someone else’s. Sharing what you believe or desire will help others see your point of view—even if you disagree, it can be beautifully civil!

2. Don’t be afraid to say no. Saying no is actually an important skill for a pushover to have. Recognize that you aren’t rejecting the person who is asking for something, you are just rejecting what you are being asked to do—and that is absolutely okay.

3. Express your opinions with confidence and boldness. Open up a healthy communication where thoughts are shared with mutual respect. This used to scare me because I was afraid of confrontation. I decided to give it a try and it worked way beyond my expectations.

4. Stop caring what other people think—because honestly, what they think of you really doesn’t matter in the big scheme of things. What really matters is what Heavenly Father thinks of you and how you view yourself. He knows and loves you. You are precious and wonderful in His eyes. How would it feel to see your divinity the way He sees you?

If you are struggling with being a pushover, try implementing the above tips and see the Dose of Enlightenment below.

With love,

Jeri

Since we promised to treat you to an extra dose of light in your inbox, we include a Dose of Enlightenment for you at the end of each newsletter. We value your agency, so it’s up to you whether or not you receive it!

This Dose of Enlightenment is a frequency equation meant to clear a hidden and trapped emotion that you’ve been holding onto.

If today's emotion is one that we have already cleared, know that we are addressing a different layer or situation this time.

*******************************************************

Today’s emotion is: pushover

How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how pushover applies to you.

Dose of Enlightenment: 86 + 914 = E

Say it out loud with intent: "eighty-six plus nine-fourteen equals enlightenment.”

Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.
