Take Imperfect Action

Jac: When you expect perfection of yourself, you expect perfection of others… which creates extremely unrealistic expectations that people can never reach—and you can’t reach your own expectations for yourself either.

Jeri: That is so true. I used to be really hard on myself. The saying, “anything worth doing, is worth doing well” was my motto to live by… but it really should have been “anything worth doing is worth doing perfectly!”

One day, my friend Connie and I, got together to make a vegetable bouquet for a ladies’ luncheon. I painstakingly tried to cut every little carrot to look like the exact same tulip.

It was taking forever. I felt that in order for the veggie bouquet to be beautiful and presentable, each one needed to look exactly the same. I expected her to be as meticulous as I was!

Connie, on the other hand, was working five times faster than me. She recognized my struggle and gave me some very wise advice.

She told me that Heavenly Father did not make every flower to look the same—by making them all just a little bit different, their beauty was even more profound. He made his children the same way… just a little bit different. We all have our own characteristics and uniqueness that makes us beautiful.

It was a good lesson and taught me that it was okay to let go of that perfectionism I had been expecting of myself and others.

Jac: That’s really insightful. I’ve always leaned toward perfectionism myself, and I do tend to finish things slower than other people.

I always remembered the saying, “Take the time to do it right the first time, and it will save you time in the long run.” But I must have interpreted it to mean: “Take the time to do it perfectly the first time, otherwise you will never measure up.”

And I’ve noticed that sometimes I have put that on other people… so I have to remind myself that it’s okay to make mistakes.

I’ve also been learning that it’s better to take imperfect action than to never get started because the thought of doing something perfectly is too overwhelming.

Jeri: Imperfect action! I really like that. If we wait for perfection, we will never get anything done!

Expecting perfection is a good one for all of us to clear.

Ask yourself… how are you expecting perfection from yourself and others? Then say the dose of enlightenment below.

Love from Jeri and Jac

Since we promised to treat you to an extra dose of light in your inbox, we include a Dose of Enlightenment for you at the end of each newsletter. We value your agency, so it’s up to you whether or not you receive it!

This Dose of Enlightenment is a frequency equation meant to clear a hidden and trapped emotion that you’ve been holding onto.

If today's emotion is one that we have already cleared, know that we are addressing a different layer or situation this time.

*******************************************************

Today’s emotion is: expecting perfection

How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how expecting perfection applies to you.

Dose of Enlightenment: 106 + 894 = E

Say it out loud with intent: “one-zero-six plus eight-ninety-four equals enlightenment.”

Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.
