I was sick and tired of feeling like I had to do everything. Cooking, shopping for groceries, cleaning, mopping, scrubbing, laundry, mowing, edging, tilling the garden, planting, weeding, and in the winter, shoveling snow…
The list was never ending. I was giving too much. I felt overwhelmed and insecure.
I could not understand why he couldn’t see everything I was taking on. I was doing it for him in an attempt to lift his burdens because he was ‘busy’. I wanted him to show love and appreciation to me for my sacrifice, but he was oblivious to my efforts.
If you feel like you are giving too much it is important to recognize that you chose it.
That may sound a bit harsh, but truly, you are in charge of your schedule. You choose what you agree to do, whether consciously or unconsciously. Many times, those ‘agreements’ are with yourself and no one else!
The long list of things mentioned above, I made a conscious choice or agreement with myself to do them. I didn’t have a conversation with my husband. I didn’t ask him to pitch in. I didn’t explain to him that I was overwhelmed and needed help.
No wonder he was blind to everything I was doing… he was ‘busy’ doing his thing and wasn’t even aware of my extra efforts. The agreement was all in my head!
If you find yourself in this position, whether it is at home, work or other obligations, here are some suggestions to help you through:
1. Communicate. Have a conversation and let your spouse or employer understand the long hours you are putting in and the heavy load you are carrying.
2. Share the work load. If it’s home duties, ask your spouse how he or she would feel about sharing responsibilities around the home and find an equitable way to fairly divide the work.
Find ways to have fun working together. Working together builds and strengthens relationships.
If it is an employer situation, talk to your boss about dividing the work load or hiring someone to help out. A new employee means the business is growing. That is a good thing.
3. Set boundaries. Determine a time when you can stop working for the day in order to do something you enjoy so you can relax and unwind.
4. Rewards. Find fun ways to reward yourself, spouse or collogues for sharing the responsibilities. A creative date night or day trip is a fun way to enjoy your spouse’s company. At work, if possible close the office for a couple of hours and go to lunch every 3 or 4 months, or have everyone bring in a pot luck.
Really, it’s all about connections. When you are giving too much you are missing out on those important connections with family, friends and/or co-workers.
If you are ready to stop giving too much and start sharing the load, say the dose of enlightenment below.
With love,
Jeri

Since we promised to treat you to an extra dose of light in your inbox, we include a Dose of Enlightenment for you at the end of each newsletter. We value your agency, so it’s up to you whether or not you receive it!
This Dose of Enlightenment is a frequency equation meant to clear a hidden and trapped emotion that you’ve been holding onto.
If today's emotion is one that we have already cleared, know that we are addressing a different layer or situation this time.
*******************************************************
Today’s emotion is: giving too much
How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how giving too much applies to you.
Dose of Enlightenment: 128 + 872 = E
Say it out loud with intent: "one-twenty-eight plus eight-seventy-two equals enlightenment.”
Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.
