I became acquainted with someone who quickly became a good friend. At the time, he was on the road to recovery after he had made some bad decisions and developed some addictions.
He shared his story with me, and sadly, I have seen this play out—on some level—in the lives of many who have experienced similar situations.
Jake* thought he had the perfect happy family—they had a lot of fun together, plus they were faithfully serving at the church they regularly attended.
In fact, he enjoyed serving in a leadership position where he got to do more service than he had done with his other previous callings.
As it turns out, his wife Jane* was very unhappy. She had been feeling neglected and abandoned and wondered why her husband’s focus was everywhere but on his own home and family.
She began to believe that their church actually required people to put their callings before their family and that wasn’t something she wanted to be a part of anymore.
After much struggle, and years of feeling unheard, rejected, abandoned, disrespected, neglected by Jake… Jane chose to leave their church and divorce her husband, tearing their family apart.
She went on her own destructive journey trying to cover up her pain: changing her appearance, drinking, smoking pot, partying, abusive boyfriends, sleeping around, etc…
She treated Jake horribly whenever they had to interact, usually regarding custody arrangements.
Jake couldn’t wrap his head around her choices. And he couldn’t let go of the idea that he needed to get her back and fix his family.
Logically, he knew she wouldn’t ever come back to him… and he knew that her behaviors were very destructive and wouldn’t serve him or their kids well.
Jake had convinced himself that he had taken the time to heal—after all, he prayed to God often—even attended the temple to seek answers—yet he refused to listen to God’s counsel for him.
On the outside, he pretended to move on with his life. But on the inside—deep within his subconscious mind—he was obsessed with trying to get his old life back.
It didn’t help that every time he saw Jane—even though she treated him poorly—he kept finding himself believing that she was still attracted to him and hadn’t truly moved on herself.
So Jake began making choices (driven from deep within his subconscious) to become the kind of person he believed Jane would want now, which meant compromising his own principles and values.
He eventually began drinking and found himself addicted to alcohol.
He dated many women, started crossing lines that he never would have crossed previously, and soon found himself sleeping with various women—not making any real connections, because he had no intention of building a lasting relationship with anyone but Jane.
Unfortunately, he had also developed a sex addiction as a means of coping with the pain that he had refused to take the time to work through, let alone to acknowledge.
Thankfully, Jake had a concerned and true friend who helped him wake up to reality before things got too much worse. He referred Jake to an incredible program for men to help them turn back to God, to feel, to heal, to take responsibility for their part, and to overcome their addictions.
Jake has also attended men’s retreats that have helped him make some incredible progress on his healing journey over the years.
If you have ever found yourself compromising your principles to try to fit the mold of what you think someone else wants—even if it is coming from a deep subconscious level that you’re barely waking up to this very moment—or for any other reason—there’s a dose of enlightenment below.
Love from Jac

Since we promised to treat you to an extra dose of light in your inbox, we include a Dose of Enlightenment for you at the end of each newsletter. We value your agency, so it’s up to you whether or not you receive it!
This Dose of Enlightenment is a frequency equation meant to clear a hidden and trapped emotion that you’ve been holding onto.
If today's emotion is one that we have already cleared, know that we are addressing a different layer or situation this time.
*******************************************************
Today’s emotion is: compromising principles
How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how compromising principles applies to you.
Dose of Enlightenment: 81 + 919 = E
Say it out loud with intent: “eighty-one plus nine-nineteen equals enlightenment.”
