“My family has the divorce curse. There’s no way I would ever get married.”

Hearing my sweet friend say that broke my heart.

We hadn’t seen each other since childhood, and while catching up on our lives over the past 25 years, this poured out of him. He explained how the multiple divorces of his mom—and every one of his siblings—had shaped his view of love.

He’s the kind of person who learned how not to be—from some painful examples in his life.

And in spite of it all, he’s become kind, grounded, successful, brilliant… and funny, too.

I know he could make someone very happy.

But sadly, he believes the “divorce curse” is inescapable—
that no matter what, it would find a way to destroy any relationship he builds.

And because he believes that… he can’t move forward.
The fear wins before love gets a chance.
