The Exciting Game!

You know those times—perhaps for a day, week, month, year, or more—when it just felt like everything was going wrong?

When no matter what you did, or what you chose, it just never quite worked out?

I think we’ve all experienced that at one point or another. Maybe you are experiencing that right now.

The most important thing you can in a situation like that, is to stop expecting the worst.

You may think that if you expect the worst, then what really happens could never actually be that bad, so you’ll come out in better shape than you thought.

However, when you focus on negative outcomes, you receive negative outcomes. And then it’s easy to get caught up in the drama and trauma and make everything worse.

Have you ever heard the story about the taoist farmer? He maintained a more neutral view on what was happening in his life because he understood that we never really know how something is going to turn out. (My source is linked below the story.)

There was once a farmer in ancient China who owned a horse.

“You are so lucky!” his neighbors told him, “to have a horse to pull the cart for you.”

“Maybe,” the farmer replied.

One day he didn’t latch the gate properly and the horse ran away. “Oh no! That is terrible news!” his neighbors cried. “Such bad luck!”

“Maybe,” the farmer replied.

A few days later the horse returned, bringing with it six wild horses.

“How fantastic! You are so lucky,” his neighbors told him.

“Maybe,” the farmer replied.

The following week the farmer’s son was breaking-in one of the wild horses when it threw him to the ground, breaking his leg.

“Oh no!” the neighbors cried. “Such bad luck, all over again!”

“Maybe,” the farmer replied.

The next day soldiers came and took away all the young men to fight in the army. The farmer’s son was left behind.

“You are so lucky!” his neighbors cried.

“Maybe,” the farmer replied.

When we interpret a situation as an ‘opportunity’ or a ‘disaster’ it shapes the way that we respond.

But the Taoist Farmer shows that we can never truly know how a situation is going to turn out. There are no intrinsic ‘opportunities’ or ‘threats’ — there is only what happens and how we choose to respond.

The truth is that we never really know how a situation may bless our lives, even if the outcome is looking bleak.

Can you trust that God has you in the palm of His hand, even when it feels like nothing is going right? I believe that’s a very important lesson to learn.

And to take it to another level, ask yourself what could happen if you allowed yourself to be excited for what’s to come!?

I have a friend who loves to play what she calls “The Exciting Game!”

Everywhere she goes, in everything she does, she expects something exciting to happen! She allows herself to feel the excitement for whatever is about to happen, and she immediately expresses gratitude to God when those exciting things do happen.

She says those are always the best days! She hears from friends out of the blue, she runs into people she knows and loves, she makes new friends, she witnesses stressful situations resolving themselves, and things that normally would affect her negatively just don’t seem to have any power over her.

She’s essentially putting herself into God’s hands so that she can maintain a positive outlook, find more joy and excitement in her life, and look for reasons to be grateful.

I’ve tried it. And it works! It’s quite amazing, actually, and I need to remember to do it more often!

There’s a dose of enlightenment below to help you shift your mindset and your outlook on life.

Who wants to play the exciting game with me today? Let’s go!

PS I’d love to hear how it goes for you, so feel free to reply to this email and tell me your experiences :)

Since we promised to treat you to an extra dose of light in your inbox, we include a Dose of Enlightenment for you at the end of each newsletter. We value your agency, so it’s up to you whether or not you receive it!

This Dose of Enlightenment is a frequency equation meant to clear a hidden and trapped emotion that you’ve been holding onto.

If today's emotion is one that we have already cleared, know that we are addressing a different layer or situation this time.

*******************************************************

Today’s emotion is: constant recipient of bad luck or misfortune

How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how constant recipient of bad luck or misfortune applies to you.

Dose of Enlightenment: 46 + 954 = E

Say it out loud with intent: “forty-six plus nine-fifty-four equals enlightenment.”

Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.
