The First Stone

Jac: Have you ever read the comments on a news story where someone made a mistake or committed a crime, and people are absolutely cruel, condemning, and unforgiving?

Jeri: Sadly, yes. It happens more and more in today’s world. I think they would burn the ALLEGED offender at the stake—right then and there—even before there’s even a trial to determine innocence or guilt.

Jac: I agree. Honestly, it breaks my heart to see how heartless people can be to other humans, and how quick and easy they jump to the worst conclusions about people. None of us are immune to that tendency.

I’ve seen innocent lives destroyed by lies… because people who don’t know the Truth are so quick to jump on board and perpetuate those lies.

What do you think drives such a condemning attitude?

Jeri: I believe it is all about the need for power—to be able to manipulate and control someone else to get what you want. It happens on all levels of society… starting out with bullies in grade school all the way up to the most powerful or lustful leaders in the world.

What are your thoughts?

Jac: There does seem to be a lot of that out there, but I think it’s even deeper than that. I once heard that we judge other people the way that we would judge ourselves if we were in that same situation.

That rang true to me, and it makes me think that perhaps there are a lot of people out there who hate themselves for past mistakes and direct that hate toward other people for their mistakes—that way they don’t have to look at themselves and remember that they aren’t as perfect as they want everyone to think they are.

Jeri: Wow! That makes a lot of sense. I agree that we can’t project that hatred to others if it isn’t already inside of us.

I also feel like—even with all of the nastiness and condemnation going on—people who have the desire to be loving and accepting of humanity have a greater, true and godly power; its a power that overcomes the hatred and darkness in the world.

Jac: I love what you said about a greater power that overcomes darkness. We can certainly rise above those attitudes and seek to lift people up—even those who have seriously hurt you, your loved ones, and/or others.

Jesus said, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.”

Then he told the woman who had been accused to “go and sin no more.”

If our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ can be so forgiving, we can too. It is through Him that we can overcome the world. I hope we can all give each other a little more grace. Life is hard enough as it is—for everyone. Truly, we don’t need to make it harder for people who are already suffering—just as we would hope other people wouldn't make it harder on ourselves.

Jeri: Amen. It’s time to clear a condemning attitude. See the dose of enlightenment below.

Today’s emotion is: condemning attitude

How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how condemning attitude applies to you.

Dose of Enlightenment: 134 + 866 = E

Say it out loud with intent: “one-thirty-four plus eight-sixty-six equals enlightenment.”

Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.
