The Truth About Lies

I remember lying to one of my teachers in junior high. Right after the only time I’d ever cheated on a test.

My friend, who was sitting right by me, kept trying to get my attention while pointing to the answer she'd written on her paper. It didn't feel subtle at all. She knew I'd been struggling with this type of equation and took it upon herself to help me.

Honestly, I wished she hadn't, but it was easier to look than to have her keep making a scene.

Even though I felt bad, I couldn’t unsee her answer, so I reworked my math until I got the same answer she did. I’m pretty sure my teacher saw the exchange, because he asked me after class if I had cheated on that one equation...

He thought it strange that I somehow had the same answer as my friend—and we had both gotten it wrong.

I told him no, and justified in my mind that she was the one who made me look.

I was mad at her for showing me the answer… I was more mad at myself for reworking the problem so I’d have the “right” answer on my own paper… and yet even more mad at myself for lying to my teacher.

Being untruthful feels terrible. And because I never owned up to what happened—I mostly didn’t want to get her into trouble—I couldn’t ever look him in the eye again. Thankfully, there were only a couple weeks of school left.

I can’t exactly apologize to him now—I wouldn't know how to find him. I'm not sure I even remember his name correctly... but I can clear that energy of having been untruthful. I can forgive myself. And I can turn to God.

If you have ever experienced being untruthful—whether resolved or unresolved… perhaps you told a big lie or a “harmless” white lie; or perhaps you twisted the truth, purposefully left part of the truth out, or manipulated a situation for your own favor…

Whichever… it’s time to let it go, forgive yourself (and if applicable, ask forgiveness), and move on. Living with lies or dishonesty—at any degree of intensity—hurts you more than everyone else you’ve caused to be hurt by them.

Since we promised to treat you to an extra dose of light in your inbox, we include a Dose of Enlightenment for you at the end of each newsletter. We value your agency, so it’s up to you whether or not you receive it!

This Dose of Enlightenment is a frequency equation meant to clear a hidden and trapped emotion that you’ve been holding onto.

If today's emotion is one that we have already cleared, know that we are addressing a different layer or situation this time.

*******************************************************

Today’s emotion is: untruthful

How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how untruthful applies to you.

Dose of Enlightenment: 62 + 938 = E

Say it out loud with intent: “sixty-two plus nine-thirty-eight equals enlightenment.”

Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.
