Thirty Year Grudge

Jeri: I was visiting with my dad while sitting on his front porch. He was sharing experiences about his life (he was 95 years old). Our pleasant conversation turned sour quickly when he remembered a car dealer who had swindled him. He was livid.

His face turned red and he raised his voice as he told me, “If I ever see him again, I will kill him.”

I was shocked. I don’t ever remember seeing my dad express his wrath quite that way. He had let the anger over that experience consume him. The saddest part was it had been over 30 years since it happened.

Jac: Oh wow. That’s a really long time to hold onto anger—it sounds like the emotion was still quite intense after 30 years. What did you do when he shared that with you?

Jeri: All I could do was listen. It made me feel so sad to think that he had chosen to take that anger to the grave. Especially when choosing forgiveness is so healing. He died shortly after that.

Jac: Yeah, it probably wasn’t the right time to preach forgiveness. It’s too bad he wasn’t ever able to move past that experience in this life. The cool thing is, when we clear emotions for ourselves, it empowers our family members (living or dead) to take the opportunity to let those things go themselves.

Sidenote: One of the big mistakes I see with generational healing is placing the blame on those who have gone before you. If you said, “This emotion belongs to my great-grandmother,” it might be true to a degree. However, you took that emotion on yourself at some point (through your own experiences), or the emotion wouldn’t be showing up for you to clear.

The key to helping your ancestors—and your living family members—is to take responsibility for how that emotion applies to you individually. Then clear it for YOU. That is what empowers those in your family line to receive that healing, too—if they desire it and choose it.

Jeri: Perhaps now would be a good time for you… Yes, we are talking to you, dear reader—and also to ourselves… to figure out how long-term anger applies to you. Then see the dose of enlightenment below.

Jac: Well said. Let’s do this!

Today’s emotion is: long-term anger

How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how long-term anger applies to you.

Dose of Enlightenment: 136 + 864 = E

Say it out loud with intent: “one-thirty-six plus eight-sixty-four equals enlightenment.”

Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.
