I tend to procrastinate my own bedtime. It’s definitely not one of my healthy habits, and it’s definitely something I would like to change. In order to do that, I need to find out WHY I keep procrastinating my bedtime.
Things to note:
I used to love to go to bed early. I remember being in middle school and junior high and looking forward to getting a good night’s rest, so I would often start getting ready for bed around 8:30pm and go to bed shortly thereafter.
My sister and I had to share a bedroom with a foreign exchange student (that really didn’t like me) when I was in 8th grade. She insisted on keeping her ticking wall clock in the bedroom at all times.
My sister and I couldn’t sleep due to hearing that persistent tick, tick, tick.
That’s when I started to become a night owl. The problem is, I was also a morning lark and sleep deprivation has definitely caught up with me.
As I wrote in a previous newsletter, I have to have the perfect conditions to fall asleep and used to lay in bed for hours before my brain would finally calm down to where I could sleep.
I believe that need for perfect sleeping conditions also began with that foreign exchange student.
I’ve also dealt with sleep paralysis over the years—beginning when I was around the age of five. I have learned what causes that from an adversarial standpoint, and it’s not a pretty thing. So... casting out and shielding my space before bed each night works wonders.
Just for fun, let’s see which emotions are the roots and boulders of my procrastinating my bedtime! (And please, feel free clear these with me if you can see any of these emotions applying to you in any way, and for any area of your life.)
1. Giving your power away to maintain peace. Wow, yes. Especially thinking back to the contention over the clock. It was so much easier to try to avoid conflict with someone who already didn’t like me than to insist that she put the clock outside of the room.
I’m sure that has spilled over into other areas of my life as well.
70 + 930 = E
2. Hardness. I think part of that hardness comes from hardened habits that are difficult to break—and difficult to even want to break.
Also, sometimes being soft requires us to pay attention to our feelings and emotions. And honestly, with all the things that have been going on in my life lately… I’d rather not feel my feelings at nighttime.
And that choice to not feel my feelings creates a hardness within, because it’s going against what needs to be happening for my highest good. Oopsy.
90 + 910 = E
3. Losing control. This makes me think about my need for the perfect sleeping conditions. Perhaps that is part of my need for control, and when I don’t have those conditions met, I feel a loss of control. And who wants to feel that!?
So I’ve created the illusion that if I procrastinate my bedtime, I will have more control over creating those perfect conditions for me to fall asleep.
That whole sleep paralysis likely ties in here too. It’s a horrible feeling to wake up and realize that you have zero control to even move your body. It takes an incredible amount of effort and focus to move the tiniest muscle to break free. It’s terrifying, especially when you can see what’s holding you down in the spiritual realm.
Not to mention, all of the other ways I have felt I’m losing control in my life.
But really, it’s better to surrender it all to God anyway. When we give up our control to Him, we finally gain control.
86 + 914 = E
And now, I’ll invite you to say the dose of enlightenment below with me to clear procrastination. If you need to do any more digging to figure out the reasons why you are procrastinating something, use M: Collaborations with the Divine Doctor to pinpoint and clear those emotions.

Today’s emotion is: procrastination
How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how procrastination applies to you.
Dose of Enlightenment: 107 + 893 = E
Say it out loud with intent: “one-zero-seven plus eight-ninety-three equals enlightenment.”
Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.
