Toe the Line

Jeri: As a young mom I was constantly worried about what my children would say or do. My parenting style was a drill sergeant and I expected them to toe the line. The really strange thing… I felt like their behavior reflected on me, so I wanted them to be perfectly well behaved.

Jac: I remember those expectations, especially when cleaning the bathroom… haha. It had to be perfect to pass inspection!

Jeri: One day I got a phone call from a neighbor, Laura, informing me that she had caught my youngest son and two of his friends, bullying another little boy. They were all 10 or 11 years old.

Laura was livid and informed me that the bullying wasn’t even the worst of it. She was furious because when asked who his parents were, he lied. She could easily identify the other two boys, but not Cameron. So, he took that as an opportunity to claim his dad was Jon Cox—another neighbor.

I’m sure Cam knew that his behavior was less than perfect and wanted to avoid trouble with his overbearing mother.

Jac: That’s not good! What happened?

Jeri: Laura contacted Jon, and he informed her, “no, that’s not my boy, he belongs to Charlie Taylor.” That is when I received the call.

Then the apologies began. I drove him to three homes… The first was Jon Cox’s. Cam had to apologize for using his good name.

Then we went to Laura’s so Cam could say he was sorry for lying.

Then we went to the house of the victim, the little boy who was bullied. We got out of the car and went to the door, and I listened while Cam said he was sorry to the boy and his mom.

Jac: Wow, that is a lot of apologies, but that seems pretty reasonable to me.

Jeri: I do feel like having him apologize was the right thing to do, but I wish I would have showed Cam more compassion and let go of my own embarrassment. It wasn’t about me—it was about 2 little boys in need of love and understanding.

Cam was usually the one being bullied (by those same bullies he was with that day). My reaction was so overbearing and reactive. I wish I would have been more gentle and loving. Looking back, it’s easy to see those mistakes.

Jac: I don’t think any parent ever does everything perfectly, although I’m sure there are moments…

It’s so important to give yourself grace for your mistakes. God is forgiving, and times like that give us the opportunity to learn, grow, and become better.

What really matters is that we are trying.

See the dose of enlightenment below to clear overbearing energy—whether you’re a mom or dad, aunt or uncle, grandma or grandpa, teacher, etc…

Love from Jeri and Jac

Since we promised to treat you to an extra dose of light in your inbox, we include a Dose of Enlightenment for you at the end of each newsletter. We value your agency, so it’s up to you whether or not you receive it!

This Dose of Enlightenment is a frequency equation meant to clear a hidden and trapped emotion that you’ve been holding onto.

If today's emotion is one that we have already cleared, know that we are addressing a different layer or situation this time.

*******************************************************

Today’s emotion is: overbearing mothering

How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how overbearing mothering applies to you.

Dose of Enlightenment: 112 + 888 = E

Say it out loud with intent: “one-twelve plus eight-eighty-eight equals enlightenment.”

Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.
