Unheard Whimpers

Jeri: After sitting through 2 hours at church, I was a hangry and tired little 5-year-old who just wanted my needs to be met. Instead of exiting through the front door and and heading to the family car… we went through the back door.

The sun was so bright and shined directly in my face. My eyes were so sensitive and the brightness was so uncomfortable. There was nowhere I could go to get away from the sunlight. It felt like an assault to my little self as I squinted and tried to block the rays.

A man was standing there with a camera. Apparently my parents thought it would be a good idea to have family pictures that day. Everyone seemed to be on board—except me. I started crying and rubbing my eyes. No one cared.

Mom was holding my adorable baby sister. I was too big to hold. My whimpers went unheard. I couldn’t seem to get any of them to listen to me or shade me from the sun.

Jac: Sad… that sounds like a rough time for a little girl.

It's so frustrating when you can’t seem to get anyone to listen to you. That is one of those things from childhood that tends to repeat. Have you noticed that recurring pattern throughout your life?

Jeri: Now that you mention it, yes, I have. It has become one of those fears that is most likely keeping me from moving forward with full intent.

As an adult, I often feel like when I talk to people, they don’t want to hear what I have to say… Maybe I come on too strong because I really want to be heard. If I’m not being listened to, I don’t feel loved or safe… so then I decide it’s better to keep my mouth shut and just listen. It is better to err on the side of caution than to share anything about myself or what I do. It makes me believe that people don’t want to get to know me.

Jac: How is that working out for you?

Jeri: Haha! It seems to work just fine. After all, I can keep a conversation going for quite a while just by asking questions and encouraging someone else to talk about themselves. I can be a very good listener and most people really enjoy sharing their stories.

But seriously… it is probably one of my biggest fears that is keeping me from moving forward with the momentum I desire.

Jac: Listening is a great skill and gift. However, it is sad that you haven’t felt like you’ve been able to share with others in the same way that you listen to them (I know you’re not alone in that). Sharing and expressing yourself is also a great skill and gift to develop.

If you are ready to clear your fear and false beliefs surrounding expressing yourself—so that you can move forward in the way you need and desire—see the dose of enlightenment below.

Today’s emotion is: fear of moving forward

How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how fear of moving forward applies to you.

Dose of Enlightenment: 90 + 910 = E

Say it out loud with intent: “ninety plus nine-ten equals enlightenment.”

Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.
