I stood frozen in unbelief on my front lawn as I watched the majority of the girls in my 7th grade class parade by my house—my best friend in the lead with the girl who would become my lifelong enemy.
My neighbor, Maura (name has been changed), was having a party and I was not invited. I was devastated and prayed I would be invisible as they joyfully marched by.
As soon as they passed and the chatter faded, I ran inside to hide. That is when the stories began—the lies that I told myself.
I created so many false beliefs about myself, and about Maura. I quickly became my own worst enemy and thought the absolute worst about myself and projected incorrect beliefs onto Maura.
I believed I had no friends; no one would ever like me; I would never be good enough… the list went on and on.
On the flip side, I believed Maura was the most popular girl in the school and that she was spoiled and got whatever she wanted. I believed that she was the meanest girl ever.
I’m embarrassed to say that these thoughts have haunted the majority of my life.
Recently, I was reading a book that encouraged me to reframe the negative experiences in my life and to look for patterns. Of course, this experience was at the top of my list. I had so many false stories surrounding it that I had no idea how I could possibly reframe it.
I googled how to reframe a story. The article recommended looking for the lies. LIES!?! What lies? I seriously believed my truth about the whole situation.
I was tired of being tormented by this experience and prayed my heart out. I asked Heavenly Father to bless me that I would be able to reframe this experience.
I had a memory come clearly to my mind. When Maura moved to my home town, immediately I decided I didn’t like her. She lived just around the corner and we attended the same church. I never welcomed her and I never talked to her.
Wow! She wasn’t the mean girl... I was!
No wonder she didn’t want to invite me to her party. I had to take a good long look at myself and re-evaluate how I look at myself and others. Most important, I recognized how important it was to show compassion to myself in, not only this situation, but all the similar situations that had been a repeating pattern in my life.
It was so crazy, but oh, so healing.
If you have been dealing with some serious self-worth issues that has caused you to look down on yourself or others, I encourage you to spend some time reframing your story, and identifying the lies you have told yourself.
Seeking truth always brings more light into your life. There's dose of enlightenment (below) to help get you started.

Since we promised to treat you to an extra dose of light in your inbox, we include a Dose of Enlightenment for you at the end of each newsletter. We value your agency, so it’s up to you whether or not you receive it!
This Dose of Enlightenment is a frequency equation meant to clear a hidden and trapped emotion that you’ve been holding onto.
If today's emotion is one that we have already cleared, know that we are addressing a different layer or situation this time.
*******************************************************
Today’s emotions are: looking down on self or others
How does this emotion apply to you? For best results, ponder this question and identify how looking down on self or others applies to you.
Dose of Enlightenment: 100 + 900 = E
Say it out loud with intent: “One-hundred plus nine-hundred equals enlightenment.”
Breathe. Let it go. Feel the shift. Allow your body to be filled with light.
