Last year in the fall we had a frost warning. I prayed and asked God to protect my garden… my efforts. I did not doubt that He would do it. (Yes, another frozen garden story 😊)

This year when the spring frost came, it wasn’t just a warning. I begged and pleaded with God to protect my garden—to place a protective shield around it—to send gardening angels to keep it healthy and safe. 

I had put so much time, expense, and effort into it. I didn’t want it to die. I didn’t want to have to start over.

But yet, for some reason, I didn’t trust that God would do it. I pulled out all available blankets, sheets and towels, and made sure all of my plants were safely tucked in. 

Even then, I felt so much fear, doubt, overwhelm and inner confusion—I was afraid my plants would still be damaged… that God wouldn’t grant me the blessing I had requested—that somehow, I was unworthy to receive.

I faithfully (more likely, because of my lack of faith) covered my garden two nights in a row. 

Why couldn’t I trust?

The scripture from Matthew 14:31 comes to mind: “… O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?”

Over the years, I have received answers to many prayers, some with miraculous results. One even had to do with an outdoor wedding, where God controlled the elements as the wind was raging all around, except for at the wedding party location.

Why was this time different?

Because I started googling for answers—trusting the arm of flesh more than the blessings of my Father in Heaven.

The more I read, the more doubt and fear expanded in my mind—it became invasive and I just couldn’t let go of it, even though I recognized what was happening.

My inner confusion made it impossible for me to receive, not only the blessing, but the miracle of allowing God to save my garden from the frost.

I know he would have. All that I needed to do was trust in Him and His power. He is, after all, greater than the frost.

One of my spiritual gifts is the gift of faith. On occasion I have prayed and asked to be blessed with exceedingly great faith. 

This was one of those experiences that would have helped me gain that greater gift—if only…

In today’s world, it is more important than ever to trust that God hears and answers your prayers. He wants to bless you. He desires that you have opportunities to build your faith and learn to trust Him more completely.

Thankfully, in your humanness, He gives you many chances to learn those lessons… lessons of doubt and fear, and… lessons of great faith.

Gratefully ponder the times you have received miraculous blessings, then think about the times you have allowed inner confusion to take control of your life, causing you to lose or lack faith.
